Dr Marten shoe sizings?

I have got my eye on their beautiful Adrian Arcadia loafers. Does anyone know if their sizes tend to run small, large or true to size? I'm worried that a 4 will be a bit small (and a 5 too big). TIA x

I’ve just ordered a pair of 8065 in a 6. They’re huge and going back.
I’ve irdered the same style in a youth 5.5 so will see how they fit when they arrive.
I haven’t bought dMs for years but was always a 6 then. Hmm

pepperpot99 · 16/02/2018 16:33

Thanks Squirrel. Sounds like the sizes run a bit large then....although looking on amazon, the reviews are suggesting they run small. Confused.

I would agree that the sizes tend to be on the large size.

slug · 16/02/2018 16:43

They run wide. If you are one of those people (like me) who routinely go up a size to fit your wide hooves into shoes then DMs will come as a nice surprise. I regularly wear a size 8 shoe but wear a 7 in DMs as the width of my foot is accommodated.

The 4 will probably be fine if you have narrow or even average width feet.

AAh thankyou everyone. Smile.

I find them pretty true to size and not large. I wouldn't size down.

Scabetty · 16/02/2018 19:20

I find them about half size bigger.

Sunshineandeggshells · 16/02/2018 19:28

I am a narrow 5 and always buy a 5 in DM boots...but I always wear them with big thick socks.

TowerRose · 16/02/2018 19:52

I'm between a 5-6 and it was suggested that I went for a 5. I was skeptical because they felt quite snug, but I wore them in quickly and I know now that a 6 would have been too big for me

ferrier · 16/02/2018 19:56

Oh - I find mine a bit on the small side. Though have been told they just need to be worn in more Confused

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 16/02/2018 21:17

I find them true to size but I'm a boot wearer and I wear thick socks to prevent blisters. They are wide.

PurpleDaisies · 16/02/2018 21:19

I’m a 5 and always buy 5s from them. The only exception I found was the vegan boots are narrower.

WyrdSisterWeatherwax · 16/02/2018 22:13

I think it depends on the style with them. I've got a few pairs of their boots, some size 5 and some size 6. I'm a size 5 so I find them small made sometimes.

LoniceraJaponica · 16/02/2018 22:38

DD is a 5.5, but finds a size 5 in DMs fit her. A 6 is far too big.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/02/2018 22:39

I have the Arcadia Adrians and find them true to size. I have wide size 5s and they are so comfortable I could walk for miles in them. They didn't need a huge amount of breaking in either.

HildaZelda · 17/02/2018 11:38

I find them very big. I had the boots in school (was a 4 then, still a 4 now) and I always had to wear thick socks with them.

pepperpot99 · 17/02/2018 14:16

Thank you everyone I am going to go for the size 4s in oxblood. Can't wait to get them !

OP posts:
SymphonyofShadows · 17/02/2018 14:21

I find it depends on the toe, and ones that are designed for women are generally narrower. I found the Adrians to high at the front for me, I struggled to get them on.

SymphonyofShadows · 17/02/2018 14:21

*too

I recently bought a pair of 1461 shoes in a size 5. Been a size 5 in every type of footwear since I was 14 but the DM's size 5 were like boats on me! Sent them back and got a size 4....perfect fit!

Not sure if you're aware but if you sign up to an account before you order you get sent a code for 10% off.

Even the sane styles vary between the colours, depending on the leather. I've got the Joyce heart shoes in white/red and black/leopard. The black ones are definitely more roomy. I would say they didn't require much breaking in but I may rue that later as I'm wearing them to a gig tonight (with compeeds on the heels just in case, so rock'n'roll!)

MockneyReject · 17/02/2018 14:56

I'm a standard s5. Adult DM 5's are roomy on me, adult 4's are fine. Youth 5's are too tight on the instep, as they are smaller all round, not just Length/width. As PP says, styles made specifically for women tend to be less roomy, so more of a standard fit.
