Long story short - this year I was asked to help produce a low-budget horror flick, which we managed to complete filming on, and is now in the process of post-production. All very exciting, but has also been very stressful and a real eye-opener on the film and media industries.
ANYhow, I was kind of assuming that I probably wouldn't be going to Cannes with the director and the film, but - and this is a big IF - IF the film is finished and ready to go by the end of April, I'll be going with the director, the other exec producer and a couple of the cast.
Squeee!!!!
All potentially very exciting, as apparently in a previous year, the director ended up brushing shoulders with a few celebs. Now, I'm not a massive celeb watcher, and my knowledge of fashion and style is about 1/10. My usual everyday attire is jeans, boots and a top with a cardigan - very 40-odd year old mother look. I'm 5'0'', dark hair, a size 16-18, and have no money! How the hell do I make myself presentable for Cannes?! (I hear they insist on heels in the evening, which is a bit Hmm.
I've gone back on to my VLCD as I lost 4 stone on it last year, so I should be able to lose a fair amount in the next few months. I'm thinking of getting an e-salon hair dye, so if anyone's used this, do let me know! I have been to a really good hairdresser, but at £84, for a cut/colour, was just going to skip the colour and get a cut. Otherwise, I'm pretty much at a loss. Or is it really just not that important? :S
Help me, O MNers, you're my only hope!

This is very exciting! I would look for a simple full length dress in one dark colour, plain generally looks better than pattern if you want to look expensive.

ooh that's a good idea - shape's really difficult though, being on the tubby side! I was thinking maybe a plain skater-style dress, as I'm so short every long dress I try is far too long, and looks a bit silly when shortened!

Congratulations! Agree about the plain coloured shorter dress. Maybe have a look at the sort of thing Nigella wears to Cannes, as she is shortish with dark hair, and tends to wear shorter rather than floor length skirts.

something like this?

I'm the bidder!

I have nothing to say except
Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy

MaureenNervosa · 17/02/2018 09:08

Yes! Looks perfect for Cannes.

Thanks Lost! I know, I can't quite believe it myself - we still have to get the film finished though, and that's all going to be down to me being able to co-ordinate things between the various different departments, so I'm not quite counting my chickens yet! I've only told DH, the kids and my mum and dad so far, as I don't want to jinx it - and I'd look pretty silly if we end up not going!
I'm sure it's not going to be as glamorous as it seems - it will probably be very hot, very stuffy, with lots of walking, and endless meeting of other industry professionals but the thought of 5 days with no DCs is perhaps too exciting a prospect! I wish DH could come with, but getting childcare for 5 days is nigh on impossible and he gets to go away for work trips all the time!

I was also thinking in terms of packing -
2 dresses
1 long sleeved shirt
1 pair smart worky trousers
cardigan
t-shirt (round neck a la Nigella)
horizontal stripy top (says smart casual/mediterranean, right?)
casual over-sized thin shirt (hopefully says cool/arty but also comfy?)
tank top to go under shirt/cardigan/kaftany thing?
light thin wide leg trousers
casual flat shoes for walking - pumps
high heels (don't normally wear them, but might have to?)
sunglasses
evening bag
hat
all the boring other stuff like undies and travel shit

  • and obviously travel in jeans, cardigan, top, heaviest shoes/boots and coat.
