Bare minerals prime time

I've used bare minerals basic foundation powder for a long time without a primer and sometimes now use the complexion rescue too, sometimes with a little of the powder in top.

I've never used a primer, no idea what it does! Does it only work with the powder or will it work with the complexion rescue foundation/ tinted moisturiser also?

Reviews look good, just would like more info!

Depends on the primer. Some are like a moisturiser, some are silicone based to grab onto the foundation or help it spread better, some control oil, some colour correct - there are so many choices!

I tried primer under the Complexion Rescue today and it didn't work at all, it wouldn't apply properly and basically just slid about on top. I think because it's basically a tinted moisturiser, it needs to be applied as such without silicone based products underneath.

I don't know about using primer under the powder foundation sorry. That stuff brings me out in a rash!

Ok thanks, though I do like the powder.

The reviews for prime time are extremely good. Though I did notice they do about three types of primer now, including a tinted one!

After some googling, Smashbox seems to be recommended and I'm kicking myself I didn't buy the duty free option on a plane recently (I was seriously contemplating it!)

Any thoughts on that one?

I have the smash box one, it's very good. It sort of mattifies your skin and makes the foundation last longer.

However I don't use bare minerals so couldn't comment on how the two mix.

Thanks - on the duty free advertising it said it was also very hydrating and could almost be a moisturiser on its own - as far as I could tell it was the normal one. Is that the case?

There's trillions of Primers about. IMHO the bare minerals one is very expensive and I've got cheaper ones that work just as well.

It certainly makes the powder "stick" and last much longer.

Ok thanks; which ones d you use? I'm combination to dry skin, over 40 so a few fine lines starting Sad

I'd try The Ordinary high spreadability primer. Although, as I said, the Complexion Rescue doesn't seem to work with Primers, so probably best to stick with Bare Minerals Primers first and see what they recommend. They will give you samples. Smashbox will also give you samples.
