Should I go for the chop????

I’m getting my hair done next week. It’s not looking great (not been done for 6 months). I always have my hair long and have the hairdresser do balayage (blonde) in with my natural colour (red).

I’m considering getting quite a lot off. I did it once when I was 20, I’m 29 now. I really, really regretted it last time but I’m a lot older now. What should I do? Am I having a moment of madness? Please help!

Your hair is beautiful! I wish mine would grow that longSad

How about a fringe, if you fancy a change?

DextroDependant · 08/02/2018 18:37

Every 5 years I cut my hair off. I regret it within weeks and spend 5 years growing in back to boob length.... Then do it again!

So don't do it.

NiteFlights · 08/02/2018 19:36

Your hair is lovely. You could afford to take a couple of inches off to lift things a bit but it looks really nice.

QueenOfSpades6 · 08/02/2018 19:41

youvegottobekidding love the undercut but I am most definitely not cool enough to pull it off Grin

The problem with going for a new colour is that my natural hair colour isn’t something that could be matched so in order to get it back, I’d need to grow it back in, which means having roots! I’ve been warned off by many hairdressers about this. The pictures don’t do my hair colour justice but (in the most non-boastful way) it’s a lovely colour with so many colours through it, if that makes sense. That’s why I go for balayage, it means I don’t lose my natural colour.

I quite like the Duchess of Cambridge's slightly shorter cut at the moment. Maybe something like that?

Don’t do it op! You’ve got beautiful hair. Mine was the same length when I was 20, i buzzed it when I went to travel for a year and never let it grow that long again. Always get nostalgic when I see such lovely hairSmile

Marvellousmarge · 08/02/2018 21:12

Kate had exquisite hair - now its frumpy - like all her style now sadly.

ICanStandtheHeat · 08/02/2018 21:58

NO!!!

Your hair is amazing

DontCallMeCharlotte · 08/02/2018 23:29

Marvellousmarge

We'll have to agree to differ Smile

CountFosco · 08/02/2018 23:56

Your hair is gorgeous, I'd maybe cut off a few inches so it's boob length and stop dying it. Gorgeous thick strong naturally red hair, why are you adding boring blond bits to it?

ScreamingValenta · 09/02/2018 00:05

I think your hair is lovely. You shouldn't chop it - at most, I would have 2 -3 inches off. Make the most of it while it's thick and lustrous!

Chopping is something to consider in the future, if it should become finer/greyer/wirier etc. with age, but while it's in its prime, show it off in all its glory.

Luckyaide · 09/02/2018 00:05

Agree with Count. Yr natural hair colour is lovely.

DonaldDroop · 09/02/2018 02:58

Are you insane? No way, just chop a bit off the ends. It's beautiful.

LolitaLempicka · 09/02/2018 03:06

Yes, cut it off. It is boring and not great condition.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 09/02/2018 03:10

I really wouldn't chop it - maybe a trim but no more than that. It's lovely.

I have very short hair. I had it cut short two years ago and love it. It's a doddle to wash and dry. BUT my hair is very fine and lank, and at shoulder length looked dreadful unless I put it up. Plus I'm now 50. If I was younger and had hair like yours I would leave it long.

QueenOfSpades6 · 09/02/2018 06:43

It is boring and not great condition

Well that’s odd because hairdressers are always complementing the condition of my hair so I find that hard to believe.

3 inches off the bottom and return to your natural colour because it sounds lovely and loads of people have that mixed blonde colour.

3 inched will take a bit of the weight out and make the ends feel healthier and will soon grow back again. Don't get a long bob or go short.

Funkyhouse · 09/02/2018 08:36

Don’t cut it! If you want a change why don’t you try puttting it up in different ways eg messy bun, plaited fringe. There are loads of YouTube videos making it look easy.

Mylady · 09/02/2018 09:40

3 inches off and some face framing layers from cheek bone and leave the colour alone or get a glossong treatment. It just needs some actusal shape - and will give nounce if you curl it and some nice frondy bits of you wear it up x

peoplearepeople · 09/02/2018 10:36

I had hair almost exactly the same as you op. I had it cut yesterday morning to shoulder length. It's a huge change for me, but I'd had my hair super long for nearly 10 years and was really ready for a change. My hair is quite fine, so just adding in loads of layers wasn't really an option. I'd wanted to do it on and off for the last couple of years to be honest, but it was only reading a thread on here the other day that made me finally book the appointment to do it.
I realised that I'd been making loads of different excuses for why I was waiting to do it, and the thread mentioned something about not waiting to do these things as you are worth it right now and it just struck a chord with me I guess. I wore it tied back nearly all the time anyway and can still do that if I want without it looking massively different to be honest. At the moment I really like it. It's made me stop and really think about how I dress, what make-up I wear etc and just given me a little mental kick up the arse I think. Smile I hadn't realised until getting ready this morning just how much time my hair did actually take up.
I expect I will grow it again, although probably not as long as it was before, but it feels lovely to have something a bit different for now and as a plus the condition is now amazing and feels so much more swingy!
I was really worried about becoming frumpy, to be honest. It was one of my main concerns and I always (wrongly) felt like my hair set me apart from a lot of the other people I know my age and helped keep me feeling younger. It's only now I realise what crap that was. Smile

MaureenNervosa · 09/02/2018 10:42

Your hair length suits your face shape very well. Maybe get the longest layer chopped off so it will look a bit more blunt but still long.

MrsRoyCropper · 09/02/2018 12:16

Please don’t cut it, it’s beautiful in colour condition and length. You’ll regret cutting it! A shorter style will need maintenance which will wear pretty thin after a while. And if you’re anything like me you’ll just grow it straight back!

MarshaBradyo · 09/02/2018 12:19

Yes but still keep it past your shoulders, so about a ruler length 30cm off

RoseWhiteTips · 09/02/2018 12:21

It looks great. Leave it be!

SarahBeeney · 09/02/2018 14:17

I think your hair is gorgeous but if you're bored you're bored. I've always changed my hair fairly frequently.
Takes SO long to grow tho.
