Which Didrikson Parka?

I need a new waterproof and warm parka - my North Face Arctic Parka is on it's last legs.

Struggling to find the £££ to replace it. I have found some Didrikson Parkas for a much more affordable price - eg Frida but can't find an English review saying how warm they are.

Would really appreciate any pointers

I’ve got the Thelma and it’s not warm. I wear a Uniqlo down gilet under it in the winter. It’s great in spring and autumn though, just not the depths of winter.

Totally off topic but how long have you had your NF Artic for? Mine is also dying a death this is the fourth winter I’ve worn it and I feel like it’s lost it’s volume and warmth even though it’s been dry cleaned each winter!

I have a Didrikson Rebecca and it is very warm and very waterproof.

@Pinkmexicanskull Mines done 4 years and it's flatter and the black colour has faded - even though I'm really careful to wash it with waterproof stuff and to a bare minimum.

I have a Didriksons parka - sorry, I can’t remember which one. Maybe something like the Angelica(?)

It is very warm.

However, I’m not overly impressed with the quality. It’s only halfway through its second winter, and already it’s looking really worn around the cuffs. In fact, it started to go into tiny looking holes around the cuffs last winter.

The colour (navy) looks a bit faded in places.

Buttons have fallen off, and the faux fur round the hood hasn’t worn too well either - it looks matted and straggly.

And I only wear it 2-3 times a week max in the really cold weather!

I think next time I’d probably pay more and go for a different brand.

I think I have exactly the same one as MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak! This is its third winter but it hasn't worn well. The cuffs are frayed, the navy blue is faded and a button came off (tho my fur looks fine), really it's looked a mess since the first time I washed it and have probably washed it 3 times in total. It's very warm but for the price I'd have expected it to wear much better.

A friend has the same one in green, maybe doesn't wear it as much as I do but hers is looking a lot smarter. Feel like mine is only really fit for walking the dog.

I have a Didrikson parka & also can't remember which one it is - it's the one with breast pockets as well as hand pockets. But it's very warm - I've worn it for two winters now for daily dog walks, with dogs

jumping up at it and getting it muddy, and it's worn really well. I'd buy another Didrikson.

I bought two in the sales this autumn . Thelma is for mild wet weather and another, the same shape but with a padded lining and pockets on the hips only, for cold wet weather. I am pleased with both so far, but can't say much about how well they wear; they are primarily for dog walking.

I have an Elsa and I mostly don't wear it because it is just too warm.

OCSockOrphanage don't suppose you can remember the name of the warmer Didrikson you bought? I desperately need a warm waterproof coat by Saturday!

I have a black Didrikson Vega parka and it is lovely and warm and wind proof. Have just been in the snow and it was perfect.

Amazonian, I think the style I have was called Eva, but I can't see it on their website or at the shop I got it from. However this is very similar, with extra breast pockets. Mine was a little less expensive and is sort of PVC, but well padded and very wind and waterproof. Hope this helps. Griggs which I've linked to, is where I got mine, but it's in Cornwall which may not be convenient and given the weather they are warning of delays to deliveries. Hope this helps. Good hunting!

I have the Nancy and it is very warm and waterproof

2pups, what size are you? I bought the largest kids version a couple of years ago and it fits well and was a but half the price of an adult one. I am a size 10 but often wear a 12 in coats.

I have a green Didrikson Shelter parka. We were in a shop, looking for a coat for DH and I tried it on myself. I really liked it so he bought it for me, as we walk in the countryside all through the winter.

Having complained about the cold all my life, it's the first time I have ever had a coat, which keeps me warm and dry whatever the weather. I can't wear it to go shopping, as it's too hot! It's got any number of pockets, and press studs, to do up around the face. I have had it two years, and it's still in perfect condition, although I only wear it in the countryside, not every day use (as it's too hot)!

I've been having a look at the other Nordic brands because I'm petite the Didriksons look huge on me. I've got my eye on the Helly Hanson Belfast jacket just waiting for a reduction. It's £150 at the moment.

I've also had a look at the Fjllraven jackets but they're quite pricey for me atm. Have a look at Outnorth & Nordicoutdoor as they stock a lot of leading Scandinavian outdoor brands.

I have a Thelma (spring/autumn) and the winter one is Mary. It’s my third winter wearing it daily and it’s still holding up really well. The only issues I’ve had (the lining cane away a little which I’ve sewed up and the zip on the Thelma is stiff) are because I put weight on and it became a little snug . I’d highly recommend and their customer service is excellent - phoned up about said zip and a replacement sent in post that day free (coat was 2.5 years old by this point)

I have the Lina. Its the best (and most expensive) coat I have ever owned - totally warm, really windproof, no draughty gaps and so far kept me completely dry in all weathers.

Was momentarily swayed by next day delivery and reasonable price, so ordered a Joules Brodie waterproof parka. It almost looks like a "normal" coat but the cut is all wrong and the sleeves are much too short, so it's going back.

I'm confused by the vast choice of Didriksons and don't know where to go to try them in the flesh.

I'm looking for a warmish one but not as hot as a North Face Artic. I'd rather add layers to a coat with medium warmth. 5ft 9 so longer style preferred. The Lina looks like it's very warm? Anything between that and the Thelma?

Like the Voyage OCSock linked to but but keen on belts on coats.
