Perfumistas- can you help?

A few years ago I was given a bottle of Burberry Brit EDT. (Clear bottle with white checks) I LOVED it, and was complimented a lot on it.

The last few years I've been looking for it everywhere and have had a lot of trouble finding it. I've tried Brit Rhythm, which I really really don't like, and the Brit EDP which again seems to smell really different, and another Brit one but I can't remember what it's called.

I found a little bottle of the original one I loved online, and it's finally arrived after a couple of months. But it just seems different to what I remember. The smell doesn't seem to last very long, and while it still smells nice after several minutes of waiting, I'm not wowed by it like I used to be. Does perfume go off if it's been sitting around a while? I assume the bottles aren't new as I don't think they make the original anymore.

Now for help: do you know the one I mean? Can you recommend anything that smells similar that I would love? I've tried other 'vanilla-y' ones and they're all too sweet, and I'm truly rubbish at picking out what notes are the ones I love. I've tried smelling a few different ones in store and while I like some there aren't any that I want to almost ingest because it smells so good to me.

I know it's not much to go on, but I was feeling despondent and I figured if anyone could help me it would be you lot!
