Last summer I discovered a bronzer which is glitter free and and gives me the colour I’d go (a kind of pink/red/mauve colour). Because it was Limited Edition, apparently from a couple of years ago, I bought another, shortly after. I also use a lipstick, just a No7 one which I have in abundance. One in the car, handbag and makeup bag. Also, a couple of spares (in case they discontinue).

I saw the said bronzer in a posh chemists in London so, because they were half price, I got another two. Am I odd? Out of control? Anyone else a hoarder?

No I agree, especially when it's a limited edition, or going -to -be -discontinued product because what will you do when it goes?? I'm with you on this, OP!

I don’t do it with anything else, really. Just makeup and face cream. I’ve made mistakes in the past, buying stuff on a whim and giving it away as it’s just wrong on me (I’m deathly pale). So, if I find something that suits, I’ll get a supply. At least I’m not the only one then!

Have taken delivery of Fade Out Anti Wrinkle Cream this morning as it’s getting increasingly difficult to buy. It’s not expensive but for me, is truly excellent and has made a big difference to my face but also, my straggly neck (am 55). However, I have a drawer full of Clarins I’ll probably give away, despite the expense.

Surely everyone does this! It's logical! And yes I'm that person who has two boxes of baby wipes under bed as the ones I like we're on sale and an airing cupboard full of loo roll as it was a bargain! Grin

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 03/02/2018 13:40

I have done this with a Body Shop product they have now discontinued (a foundation powder much like Bare Minerals but a lot cheaper). After they stopped doing it much to my annoyance I spotted them heavily discounted in a Body Shop so I bought the lot! I'll be gutted when I eventually run out but reckon I have enough for a few years Grin

SukiTheDog · 03/02/2018 13:44

Sorry Ruth, what I meant to say was skin/makeup stuff. I’m all for the 3 for 2 and supermarket offers. The bronzers I bought were Bobbi Brown so, quite expensive for stocking up. I’ve got a drawer full of tresemme products for my 17 yr old sons’ hair. God forbit, they EVER change the two shampoos he likes of theirs! 😁

MaisyPops · 03/02/2018 13:46

I did and now I've got less than half my bronzer left.
I wish i'd got more but couldn't afford it. Apparently there's a similar one out in the main line now so fingers crossed i can get that one.

SukiTheDog · 03/02/2018 13:52

Maisy was It Bobbi Brown? It’s annoying when stuff is discontinued. I once trawled the Internet for something Lancome, for my mum. Couldn’t get it TIL DH went to US for work.

MaisyPops · 03/02/2018 13:59

Bare Minerals. They did a bronzing mineral veil.
I have their summer bronzer too but can only wear that once i have a bit of colour because i'm really pale.

lasttimeround · 03/02/2018 14:23

Started the kondo method. And stopped doing this. I buy what I need when I need it now. More space and I enjoy what I buy more
I also think things date. Especially make up and its better to go and find the right bright red for now than than one I've worn for a decade. I get through make up etc very slowly though.

CandyYumYum · 03/02/2018 14:55

Yes. Come the apocalypse I'll be bartering food for L'occitane almond oil. This all rests on the hope that even in a dystopian world people will still want to be clean and smell nice.

SukiTheDog · 03/02/2018 15:11

Candy, that’ll be me.

Lasttime you make a good point. It could be that I’ve saddled myself with “look” for the next 10 years. I didn’t think of that.

I am guilty of this....and as a result ended up starting the "Ashamed of my beauty products hoard " thread that's been running for a while now! 😂 my home had got a bit out of hand with all things beauty (make_up/lovely toiletries/perfumes as well as bog standard toiletries).....drawers and cupboards full of stuff. I'm better than I was but still prone to relapse....particularly with holy grail products like elemis cleansing balm!

BustersBloodVessel · 03/02/2018 15:21

Urban decay discontinued my favorite lip liner color. I bought up what was on eBay and available on the internet. Ended up with about 30 of them. There's still about 15 left in my makeup box cause I found pretty much the identical color in Kiko and it's actually a much nicer liner....

SoFancy · 03/02/2018 15:23

I do it with perfume. I have back-up bottles of a few of my favourites.
A fair few of my favourite perfumes have been discontinued, so if I see them on ebay or a discount site, I buy!

Fletch80 · 03/02/2018 16:04

I used to do this with eyeshadow, nail polish, and foundation. Whenever Boots No7 was on 3 for 2 I would buy three identical eyeshadow trios and ended up with a drawer full.
The problem was that because I had enough to last me a while I didn't go near the No7 counter for months...and yes then found out that they'd discontinued my favourite colours some time before Angry

I can still remember the trauma of tracking down a new mascara after my very favourite one stopped being stocked in the UK. Took me ages to find a second-best one and after a few years that left the UK too.

misscheery · 03/02/2018 16:09

I do this with: cotton pads (so I don't run out ot), micellar water (2 big bottles), face cleanser (2 big bottles), tampons (5-6 boxes), face cream (2), my usual mascara (2), perfume (one opened one unopened)....... fuck, am I a hoarder?

opalmum · 03/02/2018 16:56

I used to do this. I'm trying to rein it in now. I bought a load of loo roll cheap, and stashed it all in the attic. Some months later, when I went to get it down again, I discovered that mice had got in and shredded it. Had to chuck quite a lot of it out. That was a good lesson. Yesterday I went to get my posh Clinique lippy out that I'd been saving for best. It has a white coating that looks like mould on it. Bleurgh! I've only used it twice, it's probably five years old. I could cry! Lesson learnt. Use your nice stuff, people.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 03/02/2018 17:01

I do stock up on things i know I go through quickly like my skincare. However after seeing many of my favourite products be discontinued or reformulated I've stopped hoarding and embraced that things change and I will always find a different product to replace it.
The light moment for me was stocking up on a foundation and then finding a better one and still having 3 bottles of the other stocked up.

This too. Makeup expires. Even powder products can be difficult to use of they're older. I never keep makeup for best now, o rotate and am just more daring with my non work daytime looks.

Only1scoop · 03/02/2018 17:05

Yes I'm terrible for it

Can't pass by a gift with two purchases and have a drawer literally full of GWP's make up bags and mini everything Blush

HappyLollipop · 03/02/2018 17:13

Make up expires so too as it does tell you on the back how long it can last for once opened so I wouldn't buy too much of it, it may be time to look for a suitable alternative.

latara23 · 03/02/2018 18:18

I used to stock up but now I'm on a strict budget each week so not any more!

runawaywithme07 · 03/02/2018 18:28

I bought half a dozen of my favourite foundation on eBay the other day, because it's been discontinued Sad It's a compact/powder foundation so it will hopefully last a little while.

There's also a shop near me that frequently sells discontinued toiletries at 90% off their RRP, so most things are between 15p and 50p. I also hunt out clearance items in Wilko, supermarkets etc. I must have several years supply of shower gel, bubble bath, moisturiser, make-up remover and hair conditioner by now Blush

But in terms of make-up, I only tend to stock up on my favourite products once they've been discontinued (which happens quite often). I always think I should stock up once I've found something I love, but I just take for granted that it will always be available. Then, as with the foundation I bought from eBay, I end up paying inflated prices once it's been discontinued.
