Orange tones in red hair?

Is there a way of having mid-brown hair with none of the brassy orange-ness? This happens with whichever hair dye I use myself, or have applied at the hairdressers. Even an ash brown, which I hoped would take the edge off it, has given it orangey tones. My natural colour is dark blonde/mousy. Anyone know if such a colour exists, or what I can ask the hairdresser for?

I would be interested to know too! I have an ash brown dye at the hairdressers and even she has said she can see red tones coming through after a week or two. Mine is from my natural hair, it's mousy but with thicker red/auburn strands so it seems to be these that don't like to stay covered up with the dye.

It is frustrating isn’t it? I don’t mind the colour sometimes, but in most lights it doesn’t suit my skin tone at all, I’m quite pale and the orange tones make me look sallow. My natural hair colour is a very bland mousy blonde, with no visible red in it, but after it’s dyed it looks ok for a few washes and then settled to this brassy shade.

Blue shampoo / conditioner will help to neutralise it. Joico do a decent one you can get from all beauty that’s not horrendously expensive

Yep. Blue will counteract the orange.

yeah I’ve found the same.

What I have been using for a while is Superdrug own brand, I think it’s called lightest brown or something. It doesn’t have any red tones (it’s not too light either despite the name)

Thank you, I’ll definitely try the shampoo and the Superdrug dye! I was in there the other day but I went for Nice n Easy light ash brown. When I first dried it I thought it had worked a bit but after a second wash it was back to orange.
