face pilling

Ive started using the Ordinary Granactive Retinoid. I'm being meticulous about applying sunscreen in the morning. I apply a little moisturiser, then Sunsense Facial Sunscreen factor 50 and then foundation. I'm getting little balls of skin/product. This pilling is horrible. What am I doing wrong? Hope it's not the sunscreen as I've just bought it!
I use a Konjac sponge to exfoliate before applying anything.

That's 3 layers of product which might explain the pilling- could you perhaps substitute a lighter serum for the moisturiser? That would be absorbed deeper than a moisturiser and might help. If you used something glycolic It would also would remove any dead skin cells.

Are you using the retinoid in the mornng? Or at night well away from the other products? What moisturiser?
I use the Ordinary moisturiser and find it pills if I put foundation on afterward. I've started putting primer on after other skincare, then foundation mixed with moisturiser, which for whatever reason stops the pilling.
There is also some interplay between silicone products and water-based products which can cause pilling.

Are you letting each layer sink in properly? I mean leaving it a good few minutes between? I get pulling with one product I use and it's always when I've been impatient and not let each layer of product sink in.

It's too much product rather than too many. Use slightly less and let them soak in.

I think you are layering products that clash. Likely one has a silicone in it (ingredient ends in -one or -xane) that seals skin. Then next product has nowhere to go = pilling. Check your ingredients lots of those skincare websites can explain it better.

Thanks, all. I've cut out the moisturiser.........use a fair bit of sunscreen.......and I'm more patient in letting the sunscreen sink in and it seems to be better. Because I'm using the Ordinary retinoid I'm meticulous about sunscreen even in those unsunny days. Not too happy about cutting out moisturiser though. Might reintroduce and learn to be even more patient.
