New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

I'm on episode 5. It's very compelling. All I'll say is I don't think Edelman is the rapist, that would be too obvious. He's annoying but not evil ( obviously making myself a hostage to fortune here). I love Josephine's flat. Now that's real style.

ProperLavs · 04/02/2018 16:10

Yes, these types of progs take you down lots of blind alleys. I always look at how far from the end we are. However he’s a scuzz bag womaniser so I think he got his just deserts!

PinPon · 04/02/2018 16:23

Recover well botemps and thank you for all the tips. Will keep an eye out on the Wolford site.

MidLife I’d seen some Wolford tights in tkmax, but never the right size / a decent colour...

Tkmax and I are not good friends any more. I dithered over a black Maison Margela wool coat reduced to £88 in the sale and still regret leaving it behind.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 04/02/2018 16:45

Coincidentally I dithered over a pale grey Osprey bag yesterday in TK. I have a feeling Osprey may be one of those brands who manufacture some stuff just for them and it puts me off. I'm not big on labels anyway and I don't like the idea of the price being artificially inflated because of the name.

AuldAlliance · 04/02/2018 17:46

Hope your legs feel better soon, Bo.
I really like some of the things on that Bangle Up site. And there is a Reiko shop not far from here...dangerous.

ProperLavs · 04/02/2018 17:56

never dither in TK maxx! Buy and then take back if you change your mind!

Can we talk leather waistcoats please? I rather fancy one but have no idea how to wear it so that I will have a modicum of style.

OCSockOrphanage · 04/02/2018 19:11

Bonsoir Mariannes, and saying hi. I've been to visit my mama (82) and take her to a cousin's funeral so have been offline quite a bit.

The wide leg Uniqlo jeans fitted beautifully but were too pale, so were returned and exchanged in store for a linen shirt for my nephew's birthday plus two sale flannel shirts. One of which both DS and his friend coveted instantly so I am expecting that to vanish from my wardrobe regularly.

I am now left with the slightly too big, slightly too high rise waist COS jeans which I shall take to the tailor for alteration.

Suffering from my annual mid winter battle with dermatitis, during which everything brings me out in a rash except cotton.

Tanaqui · 04/02/2018 19:16

I THink you are right about Osprey Pin, but their TK Max stuff is still quite good.

I have enjoyed all these threads, and partly because I have realised that that “French” (for want of a better word) aesthetic that I like- oversized jumpers, blazers, pointy shoes, red lip pie- really isn’t me at all! I have really enjoyed people’s rhiucfhts on silhouettes, and line and angles, and colour- and am enjoying my own wardrobe much more.

Tanaqui · 04/02/2018 19:16

Rhiucfths?!? Thoughts!

TheDailyMailLovesTheEUReally · 04/02/2018 19:50

Bonjour! We have moved!

I now have all my lovely clothes back out of storage, but sadly am spending my days almost exclusively in leggings and old t-shirts because this house needs work and lots of it.

However I will be checking in to get my fix of Parisienne chic...

Laska5772 · 04/02/2018 19:57

Grin Tanaqui I am not one for red lippy straight glossy hair ( as mine is v short pixie cute and white blonde.. but I like some of the look despite the boob problem mentioned above Hmm..

Now wondering about This blazer or blazer 2 or number 3 ?.. I am quite drawn to the Ponte fabric for ease of wear but is it Chic enough for French style ? ,

botemp · 04/02/2018 20:28

Sounds fab with a deep berry bag, Madame.

Aunty (oh dear, now we have two Elles), I like a bright coloured wallet as it means you can actually find it in your bag but do you carry a lot of cash/coins? That one would struggle to hold a lot I think. I've gone sort of wallet-less in recent times, I have a card holder with essential cards and not 10,000 useless store loyalty cards and pay by card or phone almost everywhere (which I find easier for account keeping anyhow). I also have a small coin pouch for emergencies, usually with a 5 or 10 euro note in there too. Means I always toss out or store receipts rather than them cluttering up my wallet. Much prefer it.

Thanks, Pinpon et. al. the stiffness seems to have gone already, the swelling went down too and I now have quite toned legs, I somehow managed to lose weight despite the glutton food fest Confused Sadly my revived appetite in France seems to have gone too, I'm thinking maybe if I trick it with some French cooking it'll come back. Planning on a warm braised Puy lentil salad with a dijon vinaigrette, topped with poached eggs and pistou for dinner tomorrow. May even get a baguette to go with it not from Sainsbury's, already have some Breton butter. My French repertoire is actually quite small (Med wise, I have a thing for the Italians mostly, and an Ottolenghi habit), so if anyone has any good recipes send them my way. I don't eat meat though, but if other's are interested feel free to share away.

Oh AuldA, and others, one of the best discoveries from my Paris trip (will share some more at another time) is that Printemps delivers across France and most of Europe free of charge, plus free returns. Doesn't even seem to be a minimum spend and they stock a lot of French brands that are otherwise costly (shipping wise) to get hold of like Caroll, Des Petits Hauts, Reiko, but also Comptoir de C (which I remember was an expensive return for you within FR, Auld). They also ship further afield with a forwarding service, so for the Antipodians may be of interest too.

Proper, when you say leather waistcoat.... do you mean attached? Shock Confused

Ah, Daily, brilliant! Congrats on the move! Wine

bo kind of...

ProperLavs · 04/02/2018 21:50

Doesn’t have to be leather though.

Theshipsong · 04/02/2018 22:58

Hello everyone,

I'm searching for wide leg trousers (full length) if anyone has seen any around? I'm delighted they are 'back' but alas I can't find them!!!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 04/02/2018 23:10

@OCSockOrphanage I have to know the origin of your username! Californian?

Also suffering with terrible itchy dry skin at the moment 😭

Feeling fat and not very stylish but the grey BMB jumper has become a staple, with nice make up and black half leather leggings (a larger pair I bought in Amsterdam years ago, no idea what brand) I feel at least a bit smarter, but feel like chunky trainers are needed as we hopefully move out of boot weather soon. Does anyone have the IM wedges? For work, I'm still a bit stuck though.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 04/02/2018 23:12

Meant to say, been wearing the Jacquemus wide legs to work, but it needs a fitted top as baggy just looks wrong, like a fat person trying to hide everything. Haven't found the right work top that suits

ProperLavs · 05/02/2018 06:55

oh Sad

Canters15 · 05/02/2018 07:11

Bonjour!

Things have been crazy busy IRL recently so haven't been on much.

Got some amazing oversized sunnies yesterday which make me feel tres awesome! Also grabbed GoGo tint from benefit, not a brand I normally buy but something came over me. Anyway it's a lovely cherry lip and cheek stain and provides a very nice flush of colour.

Question: I am overcome by a craving for a pair of studded flats. If I get some which are very obviously not a Valentino Rockstud copy, will this work? Thinking of using them to lift black skinnies and a simple top.

ToElleWithIt · 05/02/2018 08:29

A sainsbury's baguette you say? Frankly I'd be quite chuffed if I'd achieved sainsbury's baguette levels of proximity to France. I'd consider myself to have been a potato farl before finding this thread....

Thanks for the thoughts on the work outfits all. The only chunkier boots I have that are smart enough for the office are the IM ones. I have chunkier flat boots that are Doc Marten adjacent in chunkiness, but they're only really appropriate on the odd Friday. I'll try and wear the IM more.

On the jewellery - thanks for the thoughts and links botemp I do have a nice rose gold cuff which I'll look out and have a look at the link for a complementary bangle style. The watch is actually my fitbit and I'm aware it's awful, but my normal watch is being serviced and I really need something on my wrist to tell the time, so I'm stuck with this for probably the next 8 weeks. It takes a ludicrous amount of time because it has to be sent to the manufacturer via the supplier here, then a quote relayed, then acceptance of quote etc. I'm so envious of the Breton butter!

floisme I love the idea of buying menswear and getting it altered. Wish I had an alterations guru up to the job. I must do some hunting.

On Wolford tights I've got the thinner deniers on 3 for 2, but I'm not sure if I've ever seen my beloved velvet de luxe on 3 for 2. Sometimes the outlet store near me has a minimal discount on them - 10% or so.

I haven't watched spiral - adds to list.

Laska5772 Is the blazer for work? A couple of those read quite "office-y" to me - the Boden (I assume you're looking at plain fabric) and the J one, if it's not for an office I think I'd avoid. The other two would annoy me by virtue of having no buttons (even though I wouldn't do them up!). I agree with the others that you should be able to find something in a nicer fabric at the price point of the Boden one. this Arket one for example is similar in style if it's what you're looking for, but 100% wool. In a boxier style those Reiko ones botemp posted are fab!

Canters15 I have a pair of studded flats that I love - they're possibly hopelessly dated, but they help even out my legs I think!

You're all making me want a pair of wide leg trousers Damnit!

Oooh also my Hiut jeans are on the way which is a pleasant surprise as the website said that they wouldn't be in stock until March.

OCSockOrphanage · 05/02/2018 10:14

Caught up with the final parts of Spiral last night, and the considered view chez Sock is that they stretched it out too much at the end!

Squirrel, the username only refers to my rank and role: our house is the sock orphanage, quite literally, as they never seem to come in pairs, so too much time is devoted to reuniting sock twins, or at least to get them matched up with suitable partners! Nothing Californian, sadly, the sun would be most welcome in winter. And when I've been there, every day is a good hair day.

botemp · 05/02/2018 10:54

Ship, there's loads around but most are cropped. I don't think the materials are stellar but Massimo Dutti is one of the few that do full length ones.

Grumpy do you mean the Bekkets? I have some, bought them before they got hyped so actually didn't wear them that much then as there were so many fakes about but I do like wearing them in winter. They only really work with very slim fit or skinny jeans, leggings are okay too provided they're not slouchy at the ends. They're a bit higher than you'd think, forgot the name now but she also does knee length and ankle sort of Spanish style riding boots that also have an internal wedge, those are quite versatile and flattering too.

Sorry, Proper, but I think you've stumped me. It's an item I just struggle to see work on a female shape, perhaps a boyish shape that doesn't mind emphasising that can make it work.

Canters, as Elle mentioned it's somewhat of a dated combo but I wouldn't want that to deter you, just be more discerning about the shoe I think, one that's more pronounced as a shoe of today paying homage to what came before rather than a continuation of that iyswim.

Elle, the Breton butter is great, thankfully available locally, organic and one of the few cultured butters available (I can only really tolerate dairy well if it's cultured). I can even get some of that famous Bordier butter but it's ridiculously expensive unfortunately. The French bakery 5 minutes away trained under Poilane and the Patisserie place a little further along (who also sells bread) trained under Pierre Herme so I'm quite spoiled.

nothingreallymatters · 05/02/2018 11:00

Bonjour medames ,thank you for the new thread and great advice.I am plus elegant because of you all.

Have achieved the red lip by buying a pallet of mixed reds to experiment .I have at last found a red that suits me.

I will be trying the mixed bangles this week.
When we were in Paris recently it seemed to be a mix of black and silver that was preferred.

I need new sunglasses this year so am searching the net for colours and frames to make me look Parisienne.

ToElleWithIt · 05/02/2018 13:25

Also I managed to grab 15 minutes to myself in London and bought the now legendary Kiko 114. I like the colour and texture, but the longevity is not so good on me. Nice product at that price point though. I would have loved longer to browse. I didn't get to Arket.

I'm eyeing up wide leg trousers with a view to wearing at work. I like the look of these Osman ones and these Racil ones. I'm not familiar with the second brand. Any thoughts? What would be ideal is if there's something similar on the high street so I could try out the look without spending so much. If anyone has seen anything similar I'd be grateful.
