New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

Interesting about Indetix midlifecrisis. I wonder if they’d extend that discount to the rest of us PIIGS countries. I know they’re headquartered in Spain, but if Portugal get a look in?!

I use a delicates cycle or a wool wash. I hand wash one or two things. I try to wash things at 30 if I can and crucially keep all delicates laundry away from my husband who —is too lazy to— apparently cannot read labels.

So after my complaining about the Ines Uniqlo stuff, I now have to slightly row back on my criticism of them. I forgot I ordered a dress from the U collection and it arrived and it’s so good! I know it’s one of the most overused phrases on the internet, but truly my crappy picture is not doing this one justice. The fit is lovely and no transparency issues. Three people complemented me on it today. The picture is when I tried it on on Saturday; I wore tights and jewellery today. It’s navy, but leaving ever so slightly teal. I really do need an alternative to the dreaded nude pumps though. I know you suggested cognac or tan botemp and I’ve has an eye out, but haven’t seen anything.

Also attached suede coat inspiration!

There was a feature on ankle boots in Sunday Times style, the mango boots were featured. I also got an email alert that there was one pair in stock in a seven. It also helpfully told me that 155 people had requested an alert. Needless to say I didn’t get them and wouldn’t hold my breath either!

This Camille person is a bad influence for coat addicts...

Yes, the U Collection is the exception at Uniqlo, and their colabs as well (although not the JW Anderson one) they tend to get better materials for those. Dress looks lovely. You can have a look at Yvonne Kone (from Copenhagen, great casual bags too) for pumps, she has the same style in suedes and leather in different colours all the time. I quite like suede with navy as well (especially those rusty almost brown camels like that coat) and they come in different heel heights, and have a little padding on the ankle where they always dig in with me. Size down though.

I know what you mean, Auld, I finally get to wear my Joseph coat and I am wearing the hell out of it for as long as the weather allows for it. Lots of strangers on the street have stopped me to admire it, so I'm milking it for all its worth Halo

I forgot, I came across this pin whilst out browsing yesterday (I didn't buy a thing, promise, not even the pin despite being 70% off). I suggest we all get one and wear it to our meet up Grin Have we decided on a venue yet?

And the pin is sitting on a box of my favourite candles! Cire Trudon, lovely.

botemp · 12/03/2018 21:06

Those were 70% off too... Some special gift set but they were all unscented tea lights (translation?) so I didn't quite understand the hefty price tag aside from a nice candle holder thing Confused

I'll stick with my spendy Astier de Villatte incense Halo

Apparently there are more French pins to choose from, I thought the Moulin Rouge was a clock at first Blush

I think the Meetup needs to be a roving event, Spain for the Inditex pricing (and I'm back there on Thursday checking out the suede coat), Antwerp for the sample sales, Paris for inspiration....and maybe Switzerland to rob a bank!

Floisme · 13/03/2018 07:51

I really must be slowing down. There was a time, I'd have taken the glass of wine pin without a second thought. Now I think I'd rather have the croissant (especially if it's chocolate).

Uniqlo-U is my favourite thing on the high street at the moment. They've knocked H&M off their perch. I don't like it as much as the autumn/winter collection but that's no bad thing really.

ToElleWithIt · 16/03/2018 09:59

I love the baguette pins. I also saw a baguette lamp in a vintage shop. I was very tempted. I vote for Antwerp for the meet!

My Dries skirt is back from being altered so I wore that to work with the grey long-sleeved top and a short cutaway black dries jacket.

Today my husband told me I looked "cool" which is definitely out of my normal wheelhouse. It's casual day today so I'm wearing those studded Laurence Dacade boots, straight-legged jeans turned up to sit atop the boots, grey t-shirt and two gold necklaces one of which is a vintage locket on a re-purposed chunky gold chain (I found it in my husbands stuff. It was a confirmation gift and had a large crucifix on it - yes I know, but that was considered a pretty nice gift in 90s Ireland. Thankfully he has never worn it while I've known him ).

I saw a woman in the street wearing the Zara Alt jacket. I've had no joy finding one. I may have to make do with a scarf + denim jacket. This kind of thing.

Ha! I was just wondering where this thread had gone.

Elle I forgot to say, that U dress looks really good on you.

I really like scarves like that but can never wear them without thinking of Isadora Duncan.

My only real shopping news is that I'm having a bit of a stand-off with Uniqlo over those U wide leg jeans I ordered several pages ago and which never arrived. I'm hoping they see sense and realise how much money I've spent with them these last few years....

botemp · 16/03/2018 11:12

You mentioned wine, croissants and chocolate, Flo, I assumed everyone went off to gorge themselves Grin

Speaking of Uniqlo, the Tomas Maier colab full preview is up. A bit more summery/beachwear than I expected but I do like the look of the flight jacket (pic 1, also available in white and red). Had been eyeing one from Comptoir dC (pic 2, also available in a light khaki green) but thought that was a bit overpriced (but has the selling point of a sinching in elastic around the waist). The men's wear from the TM colab also looks more interesting than the women's, I feel, but perhaps that's because it's not all very bright colours.

Elle, I just did a quick search on eBay for the Alt jacket (search term-
'Zara denim jacket', if you add in Aztec it will narrow it down but you may miss out on a few) and saw at least five listings of it, several which had a return policy. They're asking full price or more though. I'm not sure what to advise on size, I tried on an S (normally an XS at Zara though that can be too big) and it was very narrow on the hips, but I'm shorter and it's obviously not supposed to fall that low, it was roomy in the shoulders though.

ProperLavs · 16/03/2018 15:01

Zara sizing is really odd. I am an xs on the bottom, sometimes that can be too big. For some jackets I am a medium but some mediums are way too big on the shoulders so I have to get a small and then the lining in the back rips because it is too tight across the back. ( and cheaply made).
i am still longing for some Vivienne Westwood than I can afford.

Floisme · 16/03/2018 15:15

I find Zara sizing as bonkers as H&M. I really can't be bothered with them anymore.

Thanks for the Thomas Maier / Uniqlo link bo. Not a lot for me there, except maybe that long cotton cardi, but I love some of the colours.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 16/03/2018 20:55

Well, I'm tucked up in bed in Barcelona having walked too far and drunk too much sangria, which I didn't know I liked. The M.D. suede trench looked dreadful so, by my deeply flawed financial logic, I've saved 350 euros to spend elsewhere!

Lisette40 · 18/03/2018 20:14

Would anyone like 'Dress Scandinavian' by Pernille Teisbaek for free? I'm happy to post it for free. I've read through the book but it's really not my look and so I'm retreating back to Paris chic. I don't want the book to go to waste.

botemp · 18/03/2018 21:48

What confuses me about Zara is that they use editorial models in their online shop, who are generally a size smaller than catalogue models. Also a lot taller and very slim, but similar measurements to mine without the curves, by that logic they should be drowning in the clothes yet it all fits fine Confused

Midlife, have you survived the sangria hangover? And more importantly, have you had chocolate cake for breakfast yet? I saw a nice suede trench on DMag but I think it's double the MD money, will look it up tomorrow.

My inbox is torturing me. I get it Matches, you really want me getting that shaggy coat in EVERY colour Hmm

Though the Parisians (court of Merci) view of Parisiennes was interesting, had been looking at a pair of similar jeans like that at Weekday (the voyager, surprisingly not flattening my bum into oblivion and well fitted around the waist, I think it's meant to sit a bit looser but on me it fits like a 501 should fit) and I had been looking at similar flat ankle booties too...

Whilst I'm fantasy shopping, I'd like this shirt too. And may as well get the ankle boots in pink too to match the lollipop coat.

I like that shirt. I am excited for when the weather finally warms up enough for me to wear mine.
What is this matches thing?
I wore a jacket last week, then it snowed again so I'm back in the thermals.

ProperLavs · 19/03/2018 06:54

Thanks for the offer lisette I had a look on amazon. I can see why you want to stick to Paris Chic!

Lisette40 · 19/03/2018 07:39

I was trying something new! But just couldn't get inspired....

AuldAlliance · 19/03/2018 13:16

Lisette, I was tempted, but have looked and think the Viking blood clearly missed my branch of the clan.

I've been painting, bo... Can't do the entrance bit yet, as it needs a builder in to fix damage from damp, but have almost finished the glass door. I tweaked your idea to allow me to use up paint I already had, and I like it. Will post a pic when it's done and dusted.

Grin I have terrible taste in fashion books.

Mind you I've all the French chic style books anyway so I'll plough my way through those again.

I'm in Scotland Auld, and the more Scandinavian part too but this leads to snow boots and warm outerwear. I think I long for milder French weather, although there was snow in Paris the other day.

whataboutbob · 19/03/2018 13:58

Lisette when it's cold here (London) it's often even colder in Paris. I was there 3 weeks ago in the snow.
French Marie Claire is my monthly injection of printed French style. Great articles, good fashion editorials, a good way of staying in touch with French culture.

Lisette40 · 19/03/2018 14:01

Thanks for the tip whataboutbob. Trying to improve my French anyway so I'll check it out.

OCSockOrphanage · 19/03/2018 14:11

Spring... will it ever arrive? The ankle grazers are singing siren songs, and I want to put the thermals and thick socks away.

kickingk16 · 19/03/2018 19:06

Belated thanks to bo for the shoe advice. I’ve not found much in Zara / Mango before but as you say, I think that’s less fit and more due to quality/synthetic materials, but I’ll definitley check out MD and Uterque and have a nosey round the other websites you suggested.

I had a bit of a depressing shopping trip this weekend - a rare toddler-free afternoon and I only ended up with a pair of tights! All the styles seem so long at the moment and just don’t work for me at my height (5ft). Found lovely stuff in Cos & John Lewis but it was all too long and long all over - not even salvageable with taking things up.

I think I’m going to try Comptoir des Cotonniers. I’ve been lusting after their stuff for a while and even if I have to loose the delivery charge, it’s cheaper than petrol/parking for another fruitless shopping trip.
