New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

Also meant to say - Elle I love that Uniqlo U dress - it’s very chic! The fit is lovely and it looks like one of those really useful dresses you could wear to work / dress up for an evening, etc. Another website I need to add to my list to try - I’ve only had hats/scarves from them in the past.

whataboutbob · 19/03/2018 19:46

Hope you like it Lisette. Definitely better than the British edition in my view.

botemp · 19/03/2018 20:04

I like buying Le Figaro on the weekend to get the Madame Figaro supplement. Always find lots of promising new shops and restaurants in Paris in there. The online version is nice too, lots of good recipes too. There was an interview with Caroline de Maigret quite recently. Never really looked at Marie Claire in France as it's never been a title I've been drawn to in other editions. Will have a nose some time. I like the Vogue Paris edition too sometimes. Although these days, despite not being able to read a thing in them I quite like browsing the Vogue India and Middle Eastern editions as it's such a different world/context.

Hold on with the Comptoir order, kicking. They're having a mid season sale from Thursday, well at least the EU site is, I assume the UK site is the same.

Had an extra thought about shoes, the EU/UK conversion has changed in recent times in my experience, so a UK3 is a IT36,5 these days.

Curious to see how the painting is coming on Auld, using up old paint is always a good idea if it means more fashion buys Grin

Ah, thanks for the tip off bo! And the shoe conversion might explain my recent troubles - I was beginning to think it was all in my head (or that my feet are shrinking...).

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 19/03/2018 20:46

@botemp I realised the best thing was to power on through and do it again the next night too!

Came back with a tan leather blazer, a 50 euros bargain, and three tops from MD.

Mango was excellent, far better stuff than I've seen in the UK. I'm kicking myself for not buying some tan suede trainers at 35 euros. Just checked the UK site and they're £50!

RosieLig · 19/03/2018 22:36

God it’s freezing here!

Popped into Brora on Friday (normally a bit twee for me but they have great sales and a few lovely things) and ended up buying a gorgeous summer linen dress-it’s not on the website yet so no link sorry.

And also this. Adore it! Might wear it with white jeans. I was desperate for something a bit paler than my dark jackets and coats. It was half price at £250 and gorgeous quality with a Liberty lining.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 20/03/2018 06:45

@RosieLig love the Brora coat thank you for posting it (I've just ordered one!)

@OCSockOrphanage I'm desperate to be able to wear trainers or brogues instead of boots. Come on spring!

Been lurking / skim reading for a while, hi again everyone 👋🏼

So far surviving maternity wear via H&M super skinny jeans which are actually the nicest ones, plus the seraphine faux LL getting me through work. H&M for cotton basic tops and can still wear my nice jumpers over for now, or oversized shirts. Also oversized mint velvet boyfriend jeans (not maternity) are still working and a nice stiff denim.

I bought myself a Lancel backpack when I was in Paris for work recently:

Midlifecrisis2017 Sounds like the trip was a success. I like your logic about re purposing the coat funds.

I agree that the Uniqlo Toman Maier is very beachy. I like the red flight jacket and the swimwear, but I'd struggle to see myself in the rest.

Lovely coat RosieLig

Backpack looks perfect for work The grumpySquirel. It sounds like you're navigating the maternity wear well.

botemp I love the pink boots. I'd have them ruined in an instant of course, but the colour is gorgeous. Thanks for the link on the shoes. Will have a look locally again and if I can't find anything they may be a good bet. The heel height is nice. I did bid on one of the zara jackets, only to lose out by 1 pound last night. I probably should use one of those bid snipper things. I wonder when Matches have their spring sale and will the coat be reduced...

"OCsockorphanage* I can't wait for the better weather too. I like boots, but it would be nice to mix it up. It can be hard to get boots right for work too, so then it's into tights and I'm over tights too!

Floisme · 20/03/2018 10:57

Me too re the weather. I love winter clothes but even I looked at my Harris Tweed coat this morning and thought 'you again?'.

And yes, I can't wait to get the wide leg crops and brogues out - never got the hang of wearing them with boots. And my latest raincoat.

OCSockOrphanage · 20/03/2018 13:16

The Brora coat is gorgeous, RosieLig. With white jeans, it sounds great for spring transitions. The thermometer is creeping up... we've hit the giddy heights of 6C today and it's verging on warm who am I kidding?

quirkychick · 20/03/2018 17:14

RoseLig gorgeous coat!

Another one who likes winter clothes, but I seem to have been wearing them since September and am more than a little bored! I have, at least, worn quite a few things that usually sit unworn or are saved for best: red wool coat, Mongolian lamb scarf, Celtic & Co navy lace up boots, oversize grey alpaca scarf, red pashmina...

My only concessions to spring have been I have got out a green, tweed jacket and a pale green, cashmere cardigan. I haven't managed the jacket yet, too cold!

AuldAlliance · 20/03/2018 19:40

Snow forecast here tomorrow...Shock (bad news for farmers).

I wore my green MD jacket in the day and the green Comptoir coat this evening. Getting some wear in before I pack them away in a week or two. Not tired of them yet.

Took a photo of green jacket with a view to posting it, but TBH it just looks like...a green jacket on a tired middle aged wifey coming down with flu. So I scrapped that.

ProperLavs · 20/03/2018 22:10

We had our second lot of snow last weekend with a biting minus something north easterly wind. It was revolting.

Littlechocola · 20/03/2018 22:13

Hello, I lost my way a few threads ago but just catching up!
I’m fed up with winter clothes! They make me sad. I love my winter coats but really want to wear my summer dresses and sandals.

CatherineMaitland · 20/03/2018 22:57

Back in the UK now - snow here too with that same cold wind, ProperLavs. Ugh. Roll on things being a bit warmer.

Had another "you're looking very French" comment today so I am quite chuffed. My husband thought I looked Danish instead - not sure what that means, haha.

quirkychick · 21/03/2018 07:27

CatherineMaitland if by Danish your dh means minimal and chic, I would go with it!

It's supposed to reach the dizzy heights of 8°C here, so maybe my winter, leather jacket rather than my grey, duvet coat today. Been stuck at home with an ill child, it's likely we need to go back to the dr's to check her chest (she's asthmatic).

peonylover22 · 21/03/2018 09:47

Bonjour les Parisiennes! I’ve recently discovered S&B and am very much enjoying these wonderful Parisienne threads.

What does the stylish Parisienne with un peu de Maman tum wear to the beach / spa? Apologies if this has been covered up thread but I am slowly savouring the deliciousness of the threads and am only 1/3 through thread 2. I am hoping to go to spa next week but the elastic has gone on my bikini bottoms which is definitely not chic Blush

I’m a size 12, 5ft 10, pear shape with narrowish hips but a sticking out bottom (is this a profile pear??) Waist itself is fine but there’s a bit of a stubborn pouch below. Boobs are 30E under bra intervention method but I wear a 32D. Used to be perky, now definitely need support after 10 months BF.

Any suggestions of styles? I definitely need high leg bottoms as thighs are too wide for shorts styles. Feeling a bit self conscious of the pouch and not sure how to best hoik boobs up. I know a tankini would cover the pouch but feels v frumpy? Swimsuits I often struggle with the length of due to being taller.

ToElleWithIt · 21/03/2018 19:43

If you go a few pages back peonylover I asked for, and got good swimwear recommendations for 1 pieces. I’m the same height as you, but I’m relatively short in the torso so don’t generally need extra length. If you’re longer in the torso then maybe they’re not so useful. I had a quick look for tall / long swimsuits and God a lot of them are frumpy. The best I could find was this M&S one www.marksandspencer.com/secret-slimming-plunge-swimsuit/p/p60124294?image=SD_02_T52_2780_Y0_X_EC_90&color=BLACK&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect
J crew do tall swimsuits too, but expensive outside the US.

Threw on the Uniqlo Ones jacket today as was eager to try it. Think it would be better with blue jeans and a grey tee.

peonylover22 · 21/03/2018 22:36

Thank you ToElle I’ve found the bit of the thread and also watched the Justine video, which I found very helpful. The bad news is that the spa trip is now off, but good news is that I have time to do some proper considered swimwear research rather than panic buying.
I think I’m going to stick with a bikini. Maman tum isn’t actually that bad and am trying to embrace the body I have rather than what I wish I had. Also, ability to mix and match top and bottoms means I’m more likely to get something that fits and flatters. Having watched Justine, I think I’m going to look for a navy bikini (good for my skin tone, with some extra detail on the top as am pear shaped). Will check out the brands recommended above. Thanks again!

botemp · 22/03/2018 09:52

peony I was going to suggest navy, plain not too high waisted bottoms (no ties or decoration on the side) and something with a bit of interest on top to draw the focus there, possibly a push-up/plunge style, glad you figured that out already Smile. We revived the swimming suit chat on this thread recently, so we've discussed it twice now, but the second time was more focused on swimsuit talk but with additional brand recs.

If you ignore the bra intervention for swimwear (I do, my breasts are bottom heavy and that's challenging enough to accommodate without difficult to find sizes) then you could look at Calvin Klein (surprisingly not as expensive as you'd think, not bargainous either), Seafolly also good but I find their sizing limited for tops as it's not bra sizes.

I was in COS the other looking at one of their swimsuits as it had all the makings of a good suit (double lined, navy, room for boobs, adjustable straps, minimal unfussy shape) and I seem to have somehow ended up in the long body camp Confused. It was somewhat roomy sideways and the room for the boobs definitely in the wrong place so don't think I needed a size up. Perhaps I'm tall for my size now?

I like the jacket Elle, would look good with navy too I think.

Also, I think I need to steal something from TKMaxx and get caught to stop me from going there Blush Bought an Isabel Marant dress for a steal, I think I ran out of Papal dispensations already, and I doubt he'd really approve of the dress...

peonylover22 · 22/03/2018 14:43

Thank you Bo Can we see your IM dress? Very envious, my local TKMaxx is rubbish.

I have bought this embellished cardigan from Massimo Dutti this week
www.massimodutti.com/gb/women/sweaters-%26-cardigans/cardigans/embellished-cardigan-with-frayed-detail-c911190p8064048.html?colorId=800&categoryId=911190
Wearing it with a black pencil skirt in the office but sure I can think of some more interesting ways to style it.
Also wearing Chanel red sheer lipstick in Coco Shine 91 Boheme today. V nice if you just want a wash of red colour, a bit more subtle if you’re dabbling in brighter colours. Only issue is it comes off ever so quickly.

I want to thank everyone for these lovely threads, so interesting and also empowering. Thanks to these threads, Ive started wearing lipstick again for the first time since having my son - it’s amazing how a simple thing can make you feel more put together. Going to have a little play with lipsticks on the way home tonight.

AuldAlliance · 22/03/2018 19:00

Bo, I'd like to see the IM dress...

This is for you, less interesting, in exchange. Not quite what you suggested, but I didn't have to buy new paint. (The splashes and dribbles are from previous owners' efforts, not mine...can't get rid of them.) Thanks again for your advice.

I’m very jealous of the IM dress botemp. I never see anything like that in our local TK maxx. The man himself is visiting here this year. I can see if he’s doing some sort of holy water blessing. Maybe send you some and you can spritz it on the sinful items?

Auldalliance I have serious door envy! That is just wow! Great job.

I jus came across Cos “essentials” range. www.cosstores.com/ie/Women/Essentials Is that a new thing? The fabrics look nice. I don’t love all of it, but a couple of nice things. I’m just looking though, not buying.

AuldAlliance · 22/03/2018 20:03

Thanks, Elle. It was a right faff. Took almost as long applying masking tape as it did painting it all...

Some of that Cos stuff looks nice.
I'm a bit meh about Cos: I have two very simple cotton tops that I love, and a skirt and T-shirt that I like but that don't hang well unless you iron them just so, which is hard to achieve.
I've ordered slim fit trousers from them that posters on MN raved about, and they made me look awful.
Mainly, their models often look positively suicidal, and they stand in poses that make them resemble escaped, bandy-legged convicts and I, oddly enough, have trouble imagining how I'd look in the clothes. Seems to defeat the purpose, really.

botemp · 23/03/2018 11:36

Love the doors Auld! It looks very French, which it is of course, but still, very French Smile

TKMaxx is weird, before finding the Joseph coat I hadn't bought anything there for at least 6 months, possibly a year. It seems to be flooded with good things all of a sudden but I've noticed they're very different from store to store. The one I go to has a very large gold label section and things go quite quickly there but I've been to others in smaller cities and they don't have either the gold labels or the contemporary brands, just the very cheap unknown brands.

I can't find an online pics for the dress, I took some in the changing room but when I said the Pope wouldn't approve, I meant it. It's a backless number so it's mostly me trying to take pictures of the back whilst contorting into weird shapes and the overzealous alarms getting in the way and making it hang a bit odd, never mind the extremely questionable lighting they have in the changing rooms there... I'll see if there's something salvageable in there and then hide as it's the type of dress that the MN massive would insist you be under the age of 25 and flat as a board for and I'm neither Hmm

I think COS is really a place you need to shop in person for, or really know what suits you from there through years of experience. The patterns are non-traditional so they usually look very differently on different body shapes.

I'm not sure the Essentials are a separate range, rather just a selection, they do that sometimes online.
