detangling shampoo for 10yo DD

DD has fine hair that keeps getting tangled / matted. those tangle teezers are no good and aussie shampoo and baby shampoos like 'no more tears' don't help either.

can anyone recommend shampoos or other products

Why not try conditioner?

whitecremeegg · 01/02/2018 21:46

sorry she does use conditioner too

We've tried aussie, johnson's, pantene, herbal essences, head and shoulders, l'oreal, lots of different brands and no luck with the matts.

Are you/is she brushing it really well before washing?

Decent (robust) brushing before washing, wide tooth comb with conditioner on. Start with the bottom inch, and move up, otherwise you just push the knots further down.

I find this makes a bigger difference than which shampoo/conditioner I use.

My DD (10) uses Vosene Detangling Defence Spray. She sprays it on her hairbrush and then brushes her hair.

She also uses L'Oreal Kids Sweet Pear which smells a lot nicer.

I use hair oil in dds hair before brushing

DandelionAndBedrock · 01/02/2018 21:59

Ooh, yes. The Paul Mitchell Super Strong treatment is great.

We use the Wet Brush (have a look on Amazon) and also have a spray bottle of mostly water but with a bit of conditioner in it. Spray it on before you brush each day and it helps A LOT!

We also hated Johnson's and Aussie. (And Dove...). We like 'Ultimate Blends Sleek Restorer' (it's just 'normal' supermarket type one but it works really well).

My DD also aged 10 has very long curly fine hair, lots of it, with a tendency to get matted. We use this: www.johnlewis.com/original-sprout-miracle-baby-detangler-spray-354ml/p231656522
It's incredible, but blooming expensive.

whitecremeegg · 02/02/2018 09:54

I've just ordered Paul Mitchell detangling conditioner. V expensive so it better be good

It doesn’t matter what kind of conditioner you use, if her hair is tangled before washing it’ll be matted after.

Plait her hair overnight, brush it out before washing, use wide tooth comb or tangle teaser before rinsing out conditioner. Make sure she is not tangling up the hair herself when washing it by piling onto her head and vigorously rubbing.

Try using conditioner first on dry hair, comb it through with a vent brush, rinse, shampoo, rinse and condition again.

Loreal children's detangling spray is very good (and smalls nice)
