IMO it doesn't matter whether you use an expensive or cheap foundation, if you don't apply it properly.
Personally I like a good brush and really work it all in to my skin in small circular movements.
There is a brilliant independent make up artist in Belfast called Paddy McGurgan and I use some of his products, and also once he has recommended. I use one of his make up brushes for skin.
I use Bourjois CC cream first (maybe a bit of green cream first if reddish patches), then make up atelier primer (LOVE THIS) then Dior foundation, which really suits my skin and gives me a great finish. Then powder and a touch of bronzer to add depth. And definitely use a fixing spray.

I've wasted so much time (years) and money (£hundreds) and FINALLY have it down - I don't have the time to be reapplying several times a day, I'll top up if I'm going out after work, but that's about it.

I use:
_
Primer_
-Benefit Porefessional
or
-Estèe Lauder 'The Smoother'

Foundation
-Estèe Lauder Double Wear
or

  • Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation & Concealer
or
  • Urban Decay All Nighter

I also recommend using a setting spray, my favourites are Avon and Nyx - they do a regular one, dewy finish, matt finish...

Also I use my fingers to apply primer (eek!), a kabuki brush to apply foundation and then a beauty blender to pat it all into my skin. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube showing how to make your face foundation last all day

FallenAngel89 · 30/01/2018 13:47

Estee lauder double wear. If you go on the Fabled website you get good money off first time order 😊

FallenAngel89 · 30/01/2018 13:48

Also Nyx angel veil primer is my favourite and a tube last's ages.

HoneyDragon · 30/01/2018 13:58

I use a factor 50 as a primer and Avon eye primer on my nose. Then Mac Studio Fix. Then spray then powder then spray (contouring before powder).

Diorskin Forever is excellent.

Cavelady67 · 30/01/2018 20:37

Smashbox studio skin 15 hour wear foundation - that shit lasts forever!

My favourite long lasting primer is the high adherence one by The Ordinary.

Might want a setting spray aswell - Urban Decay ones are fab, I like the matte one and the all-nighter original one.

SwinginFromTheChandelier · 30/01/2018 22:48

I hated E/L Doublewear, it's terrible for dry or lined skin!

DarthArts · 31/01/2018 02:39

I have dry skin.

My favourite is This Works In Transit primer followed by Suqqu foundation.

Set with hourglass powder.

That's my evening go to.

Daytime is Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder - same prep, same powder. Or Bobbi Brown Serum/Stick.

I generally find long wear foundation really drying and unflattering.

I find I get better results with a good primer and powder with a light/medium foundation in terms of both look and longevity.

DarthArts · 31/01/2018 02:44

Oh and as pp above, I know lots of people like Estée Lauder Double Wear but frankly I think it's awful.

I can spot people wearing it at 100 paces.

It's far too heavy for everyday and looks really ageing on almost everyone.

I can't understand why people like it.

Huda Beauty Faux Filter foundation and primer. Totally amazing. Smells gorgeous too and covers all flaws. I think in UK you can buy at Cult Beauty and in some dept stores. There is also an online shop. Check her out on Instagram - she is a make up artist who developed her own line. Great range of shades too and they have a colour match chart where if you know what colour you wear in another brand they will suggest shade in HudaBeauty foundation. I am a shopaholic when it comes to make up and this brand really has impressed me the past 12 months.

BradleyPooper · 31/01/2018 03:59

Fenty. Blend fast as it sets quickly and also oxidises so take samples home to colour match (shade changes slightly after 10 mins). I've returned 3 bottles already but once you have the right colour, it's fantastic.

The new long-wear and primer by maybelline are incredible! Full coverage though.
