Please help me! I've just tried to highlight my hair at home (needs must, financially), and it has gone horribly wrong, surprise surprise. How/Can I sort it out? It is currently a mixture of grey roots, dark brown base, old professional highlights and new orange ones. My natural colour is dark brown with some grey. Do I just need to dye over it in brown? Argh. Pics below. Thank you!

I'd say that your highlighting wasn't left on long enough.
I'd try a semi-permanent light brown (nice&easy/castings/superdrug own brand) or dark blonde and see how that looks.

Thank you! I've ordered an ash blonde so will see how that goes

Your roots look a nice colour. Good luck with the haircolour.

After the ash blonde is applied and removed if it still is Yellow/gold/orange. Use purple shampoo. Top tip with this is wash your hair once, towel dry it then put the purple shampoo on and larger it up, leave for 5-10 mins and hopefully the brassiness will have gone.

I would say that your hair looks like it will break if you bleach it again and putting ash blonde is going to lift the redder parts to an even more brassy shade and the blondest bit might take on a green hue.

I think you need to pick a warm brown to cover it up. It needs to be warm because the blonde bits needs the warmth putting back in or they will also look swamp green.

If your hair is naturally pretty dark try the one called Caracas by Loreal -dark frosted brown. This one doesn’t turn black on bleached hair and has a good enough amount of warmth in to counteract the above. Think it is shade 4.15.

i would say you don't need to bleach it again but use an ash blond toner - Wella colour charm is good, and there are lots of YouTube tutorials on it. I second purple shampoo, i have even put it on and wrapped in clingfilm.

i'm not a hairdresser but have read a lot about it and tone my own hair.

Frankiewears · 26/01/2018 15:02

From the photo it looks as if her hair needs to be processed again with bleach because it is not light enough to tone. To tone blonde hair it needs to be as pale as the inside of a banana skin. Then you have the roots which will be a whole lotta root glow.....

Frankiewears · 26/01/2018 15:03

On the plus side it will look super shiny with the dark over it....

Thanks for the advice everyone! I only just read them after putting on the ash blonde. It has worked ok - the roots are very slightly brassy but I have purple shampoo so hopefully that will tone it down. Overall please though! Pics below...
