Any Burberry aficionados around?

I’ve found a second hand trench coat for sale online for a very reasonable price and I’m not sure if it’s authentic Burberry. I’ve never seen a label like the white one inside the coat. I’ve never owned Burberry anything so I’m not clued up on different styles etc.

I don’t want to buy it and go around bragging about my bargain find if it’s a knock off Grin

Hmmm.... i don't know.. i mean it says "Burberrys" with an "S"?
Isn't Burberry just Burberry, without an "S"? Hmm

As PP said, there is no S at the end.

GlubGlubGlub · 25/01/2018 15:13

It used to be Burberry’s until the 80s I think. The blue label is the same in other vintage items I have seen.

queenofarles · 25/01/2018 15:15

This is from Wikipedia: Burberry" was the original name until it became "Burberrys", due to many customers from around the world began calling it "Burberrys of London". ... However, the name "Burberrys of London" is still visible on many older Burberry products. In 1891, Burberry opened a shop in the Haymarket, London.

Actually my mother still pronounces it burberryyyss!

So I think its real but it must be really old 80s or 90s?

StayGoldPonyBoy · 25/01/2018 15:46

Yeah it does say it’s vintage, wasn’t concerned about the ‘Burberrys’ just the white panel label as I have only ever seen the navy labels before. A lady I work with used to work in the factory in the 90s so I showed her and she said they did have those labels and it looks authentic from the photos so I’ve bought it and she’ll check out the stitching etc when it arrives. It was £40!! So even if it is fake I’m not too upset about it- it’s still a nice coat!

Can confirm it used to be burberrys on the old stuff.never seen a lining like that though.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 25/01/2018 15:50

*til the 90s that should say! She was working there for years. I wonder if she made any of it Grin

I have a vintage Burberry coat in Irish Tweed and the label is the same as the blue one in your pic except it's a black background. So 'Burberrys' with an s. Of course mine could be a fake but it's well made and in a very heavy fabric so I'd be surprised if they'd go to all that trouble and then make an elementary mistake with the label.

I've seen other vintage coats labelled 'Thomas Burberry London'

Harryet88 · 31/01/2018 19:05

Did you manage to find out? I'll keep my eye out on these in the future if it is the real deal! Perhaps a trip to Camden Market or something.

faustina · 31/01/2018 19:33

They have a load of burberrys on the Oxfam website and the labels are often similar to the one in the photo. I think you'd just have to try on whatever it is in case it has those huge eighties shoulders (unless that's what you want of course!)

StayGoldPonyBoy · 31/01/2018 19:36

@Harryet88 Yes! It’s a real one! It’s a very lightweight full length mac and the shoulders are padded but not crazily so with it being a spring/summer coat. I love it! I especially love it for £40 Grin

Amazing! I'd love it for £40 even if it wasn't :D What a find!!
