Anyone gone from balayage blonde back to brunette?

I'm really fed up with my balayage colour. My hair is now in its natural state from roots to tips of ears, then light blonde down to the ends (hasn't been done for several months). Over time, the blonde has become a "block" of colour, so it now looks as though I'm growing out my blonde, and not in a good way!

In my dreams, i'd like to go as close to my natural shade of brown as possible, with a smattering of caramel painted in at the mid-lengths and ends - just to break it up a bit and add a little something.

Has anyone achieved something similar? Are there any professionals out there who could advise me on whether this is possible, what the process would be and what to ask for...?

This is what I have done over last 6 months or so. I explained I wanted to tone down the blonde and go a bit darker and my hairdresser has been using semi permanent colour to do this gradually, leaving flashes of caramel through the body of my hair to break up.

Don’t expect it to happen overnight but over 2-3 visits.

I went from shades of blond (some of which had gone quite orangey and brassy), and what a relief it was!
I didn't have any more colours put in, but I could've done, as I've had balayage in some form for over a year now.
Just my natural dark all over colour but it's in shiny condition again and feels so much better.

Thanks for your responses!

Mine has also gone brassy because I haven't kept up with it, and I miss the shine I had when it was darker.

If this is likely to be a 6 month process, I'd better get started!

I don't suppose anyone would be willing to share a photo of their hair for inspiration?

I love your hair Estelle!

I have had an auburn color in the past, and your first photo has made me consider going back to that...

I love your hair in that first pic Estelle!
Op, I have balayage too and have been asking for it to be toned down the last few times at the hairdressers, I want it to be near my natural colour so I don't have too much maintenance. I think she put a semi perm colour in the last time. What about a purple shampoo to get some of the brassy tones out of the blonde?! Sorry not much help.

Thank you both 😁
I asked to take the pics down because I thought I'd namechanged, whoops!
I'd definitely recommend whatever you go for, to ask for Olaplex or smartbonds (not sure on spelling?), it's saved my hair.
