Coconut oil before hair dye?

Has anyone tried using coconut oil before box dye bleaching?

What were your results? If so?

I'm away to dye mine blonde for the first time in years, my hair is mid brown, long but pretty fine and delicate, trying to minimize the damage. Therefore any advice would be greatly recieved.

I've heard this works a treat to stop the bleach messing up your skin (details here: www.xojane.com/beauty/hair/coconut-oil-hair-bleaching. Olaplex added to the bleach and developer is meant to do the same. I was in a salon when someone else was having her roots bleached with Olaplex and she said she'd had no burning or itching.

I lighten mine at home with a box blonde. My advice would be to skip using the oil the first time. If you're going from brown to blonde you need to ensure you get maximum lift and also even coverage.

Make sure you're using a hi lift bleach blonde, one that will lift your colour by several shades. There is a danger of it ending up ginger or too yellow otherwise.

I've tried the coconut oil before bleaching and found it really difficult to wash out of my fine hair. I now use a hair oil containing coconut oil ( Coco Loco hair oil Lee Stafford) I smooth it on mid lengths and ends to protect them when I re do my roots. It's much easier to wash out and seems to have prevented damage.

Hope that helps.

Thank you so so much, think I'm gonna have to maybe do a test and see which one will work better. Fingers crossed it doesn't fall out Shock
