Please help me find something for son's wedding.

So, my darling 23 year old baby son is getting married in August. The wedding will be in a teepee in a field, so think wildflowers/poss sitting on haybales/poss rainy & muddy - you see why I'm nervous....

I think DIL to be is thinking of a purple theme, but not sure whether that means bluey or reddy end of the purple spectrum.

So I need to find something suitably dressy, but not necessarily high heels & hat dressy iykwim.

Ideally in purple.

I'm a large 12, 5 foot 4, not bad torso (hourglass) but my downfall is my arms which are about the size of most people's entire bodies. I really don't want them on show.

Also I'm 55 so can't wear anything too muttony. Hair is just past shoulders, darkish with highlights. May or may not wear a hat or fascinator. I also like wearing my hair high up.

So darling S&B people, please can you help me find:
A dress/dress & jacket combo
OR (if not too unconventional) a really nice trouser suit
Plus accessories. Would silver be a good thing to wear with purple??

Any advise much appreciated.

Anyone?

Are you sure the purple theme isn't just for the bridesmaids? Is everyone dressing in purple?

mumblechum0 · 22/01/2018 16:42

Purple seems to be flowers/mens' ties/flowers/table decs etc. I don't suppose I have to wear purple, but nothing that would clash. The MoB is wearing grey. I can't wear grey/beige/pastels, I'm more a jewel colour person. (although a strong stormy grey may work.....)

Anything here, or is it a more casual affair?

I think it's too early to look yet. If it's in a teepee then forget the facinator idea, you need to be thinking more along the lines of glamping/festival but more upmarket with wellies just in case. Grin
Take something warm for the evening too as clear skies can mean cold nights.
There'll be loads of stuff in the shops to choose from, but not in January.

Don't go for an all in one, you'll have a night mare getting it off in a porter loo.

Heel wise, wear wedges, easier on grass.

Hair wise you could have something made like a clip but with real flowers.

East has a wide selection of clothes from linen to silk which could suit.

Thanks Gin, good call on portaloo problems!

Something with 70s style full sleeves that are gathered at the wrist if you don’t like your arms.

mumblechum0 · 22/01/2018 17:08

What do you think of this sort of thing (even tho its grey):

DIL and son were married in a field. Wedge or flat shoes recommended.
My mother, sons grandmother wore a beautiful outfit by Jacques Verte, palazzo pants and matching top. I chose a chiffon knee length dress.

mumblechum0 · 22/01/2018 17:17

ChristmasCard did your dress have sheer sleeves? And did you wear wedges?

OP posts:
Christmascardqueen · 22/01/2018 17:22

It was sleeveless and yes to wedges....DIL mother and sister wore run of the mill cotton clothing it was very very hot. I actually packed two dresses to wear based on the weather. The tight heavily beaded one lasted minutes.

mumblechum0 · 22/01/2018 17:26

Oh blimey CCQ, you must have hit last year's heatwave! I'm concerned that Aug may be chilly/rainy/windy! Your idea of packing 2 dresses was a good call.

So any views on that grey trouser suit in chiffon I linked to.....?

I just looked at dresses on the HoF website and put purple in as a filter. There are a few nice ones with sleeves.

I love Seasalt for dresses, this one looks like it would suit you:

Shockers · 22/01/2018 17:38

It’s very nice, but could be aging. Try it!

Shockers · 22/01/2018 17:39

That was about the trouser suit.

Personal shopper at Debenhams, they are really good and helpful.

mumblechum0 · 22/01/2018 18:05

The Jacques Vert thing is very "me", I'll see if I can get away with that colour. Personal Shopper also excellent idea

Many thanks everyone, I really appreciate your ideas Smile

This would cover your arms -

I would be very tempted with this, but probably wouldn't work for you unless you would be willing to have a jacket or pashmina to cover your arms -

This has arm coverage and a nod to the hippy wedding in a field vibe. I'll tall so would wear it as it is but you could get a dressmaker to take it up if needed.

Total bargain and in your size - perhaps worth getting as a fall back. It's also machine washable & would suit a number of occasions -
