V dark hair, 50 percent grey. Constant roots...

...what should I do?
Can't chop off and let the regrowth come through naturally. Sick of paying 40 every 6 weeks to spend 4 of them with roots showing.
My hair is almost black, so highlights generally look odd.
Do I have any options?

Could you try a lighter overall colour so you can have highlights.

Madonnasmum · 21/01/2018 10:25

Never thought of that, thank you. Have been googling grey highlights just now. They look like a potential solution maybe?

Root touch up fortnightly. Doesn't go on the rest of your hair so no worries re damage, quite cheap and only takes 10 minutes. Not ideal but nothing is!

It depends, are you looking for suggestions of how to grow your grey out or do you want to keep covering it up?

Madonnasmum · 21/01/2018 13:13

Grow out really, as to carry on covering the only answer is to colour more frequently.

What about the spray touch-up aerosols? They hide roots really well and save the constant faff and expense of hair dye.

I had this issue and decided to go lighter. It does mean the grey riots don’t show nearly as much. But I don’t think it suits me as much as dark hair, so I’m back to square one.

Yes to root spray. Amazing stuff, it really is!

Madonnasmum · 21/01/2018 15:16

@LizzieSiddal yes I'm Mediterranean looking so going blonde just won't really suit me!

@TiffTaffTop which one do you use, I'm using one in a blue/aqua tin but it's worn off by the end of the day.

Superdrug's own root spray has been the best for me, got brown hair (naturally with over 50% grey)tried the green aerosol L'Oréal I think and it sprayed over my top and not as good coverage. Bit of advice pop a towel on your shoulders when spraying!Root touch up is good, I tend to do one at 3 weeks, hairdressers for the next and then try to stretch out with another root touch up then back to hairdressers for a full head.

I'm thinking of trying the Hairprint regime, it's meant to be a chemical free alternative to colouring. I've only got a few white hairs but my hair is definitely going lighter & more gingery first before going grey.
