GHDs...worth the money?

I have some Christmas money and am contemplating buying myself the bigger plate ghds (£110ish)
...my question is are thy actually worth the extra money?

I have babyliss at the moment and they are fine, but I have a lot of hair (not thick or too long, just past shoulder length) but it takes me ages to straighten my hair. Was wondering if the max v ghds would really be quicker?
Do you get a nicer finish?

I swear by mine. I have the normal size ones though. I prefer to do small sections at a time. But to me worth every penny,

My hair is almost hip length when down and straight, but it's naturally curly, and goes very frizzy and dry.

Yes definitely, I’ve had mine since 2008 and they’re still going strong.

I keep reading that their really good for thick unruly or long hair... mine isn't any of those things, I'm just quite lazy and like the idea of it being done really quickly and easily....

I very very rarely have this amount of spare cash and want to spend it wisely, so am just unsure if it would be a wasted as they are needed for my hair really.

I've always loved them but my most recent set are terrible.
Ive dug out the ones I used in 2006 and are using them. You're better off finding some second hand ones - the old ones are amazing!

Bought my DD a pair (gold ones) quite a few years back.

She loves them. They are still working well despite the battering she gives them, used every day.

I've borrowed them occasionally, I've a lot of thick hair. I liked them and they went thro my hair like butter. They seemed very expensive to me att but I can now see they are worth the extra money.

I have a set of the bigger plated ones... they're at least 14 years old and used at least a couple of times a week and still going strong (although I had the lead repaired at one point). My hair's really thick and they work brilliantly

First pair I had were fab and must have lasted me a good 8 years. Second pair stopped working after a year or two - they were replaced as within warranty period and then they also stopped working within a year so I gave up at that point. Got a babyliss one and not noticed a massive difference despite being half the price.

I asked my hairdresser (who first introduced me to them all those years ago!) and she said they were ahead of their game initially but all the major brands have now caught up so there's not as much difference....

Had GHD's for years ...my first pair lasted at least 8 years. They broke ...got a new pair and lasted 18 months and I noticed they just were not as good. Still in warranty so swapped them for Cloud 9's! They are sooooo much better and more like the old GHD's !
I don't go back !

I have 3 pairs.

2 of them are 12 years old and are absolutely amazing.

1 pair is newer and they are rubbish. I’ve given them to my sister who’s given me them back.

I always use my old ones.
I have heard cloud 9’s are good and will get those next time.

I bought some new GHD's last year and they're nowhere near as good as the old models. I wouldn't buy them again.

Someone on another thread said that they don't get as hot as the older models which would explain it. I'd like to know if there any other brands out there that compare the old style GHD's.

I did see something about them heating up to 185 and thought it was odd as my current ones go to 220

I was told that the original founder of GHD’s then set up Cloud 9 which is why they’re as good as, if not better than, the old school GHD’s.

My original GHDs were brilliant, more recent ones were not so good. I’ll be buying Cloud 9 when this set give up the ghost.

The newer ghds are pants. I have just bought some Remington straighteners that heat upto 230 degrees for £20 on Amazon and they work wonders on my very thick frizzy, curly hair. My bargain of the year

I’ve had the same pair of GHDs for about 10 years so they are reliable. However got DD a pair of Cloud 9s for Xmas and prefer them because they are lighter and allow you to set the temperature.
