If not jeans - then what??

I wear jeans 99% of the time. I’m a SAHM to a 1 year old and 4 year old. I love jeans but am wondering what else I could wear. I wear harem trousers in summer.

I’m not a tights and dress person. What else is out there?

I have some black and some navy chino style trousers from Boden that I wear

Fosterdog123 · 20/01/2018 11:26

Cargo pants.

Tryingtogetitright · 20/01/2018 11:49

Know you said no dresses but I've just started wearing an A line denim skirt I bought years ago and never wore as an alternative to jeans... recently tried it on before sending it to the charity shop and was surprised how much I liked it. It's just above the knee and goes with all my slightly shorter (still v much tummy covering!) tops that looked good when I wore boot cut jeans but don't look right with skinnies. I'm mainly pottering about with a 3 year old and a 9 month old and I've found it quite comfortable. I wear black tights and flat boots with it, and quite fancy getting some knitted tights when I can get to the shops.

Tryingtogetitright · 20/01/2018 11:50

So I didn't send it to the charity shop! Been wearing it instead (in case that wasn't clear!)

MrsJamin · 20/01/2018 11:58

I used to only wear jeans but I wear leggings with dresses and skirts now, a lot more comfy and interesting.

MiserableAsSin · 20/01/2018 13:07

Treggings

TwinklyGiraffe · 20/01/2018 13:24

Denim skirt?
Bought a fabulous one from Esprit last month! It’s been worn so much.

mercurymaze · 20/01/2018 13:28

Uniqlo legging trousers are smart and comfy

MikeUniformMike · 20/01/2018 14:10

Jeans-style trousers in other fabric - depending on the style and cut some look quite smart. I wear denim jeans a lot and have several pairs by different brands. I tend to get overly fond of whatever I am currently wearing. I usually wear straight ones but will wear a slight bootcut or skinny jeans.

Mugshotzforlunch · 20/01/2018 14:12

I'm currently wearing black leggings from matalan.
Leggings are too thin in winter and jeans don't fit well. Currently losing weight so I'm odd shaped IYSWIM but leggings are smart and comfy and go with nearly everything else in my very limited wardrobe.

StargazyDrifter · 20/01/2018 14:18

Casual tweed trousers, which look a lot better than they sound! Can be skinny or wide leg. I wear both, often with flats and you can wear most of the same tops you'd have with denim jeans/skirts. Also good with a denim jacket.

stargazy I had the most gorgeous tweed trousers a few years ago. I threw them out when I put on weight, I REALLY regret it now.

ANy links to nice tweed trousers?

Sound fab!

StargazyDrifter · 20/01/2018 16:24

I've not bought any lately as they last for ages... on a quick skim these Boden ones look like they have potential. I prefer slightly darker colours though.

I'll post more if I find any.

StargazyDrifter · 20/01/2018 16:31

I quite like these ones... tempted now!

Also going off jeans. Next has some really comfy stretchy skinny trousers in different colours at the moment.

StargazyDrifter · 20/01/2018 16:34

These also look good for everyday. sits on hands

Swatsup · 20/01/2018 16:36

The uniglo ones are dry clean only!

StargazyDrifter · 20/01/2018 16:38

Ooh good spot I can't bear dry clean only for more casual stuff. Total pain.

Thanks for the tip on Next!

(I didn't even start off wanting any trousers, but now I'm somehow shopping for some...)

Mugshotzforlunch · 20/01/2018 17:48

I meant jeggings not leggings.

Catinthecorner · 20/01/2018 19:15

Leather (faux or real) leggings?

I bought a pair on a whim and they are in constant rotation.

barefoofdoctor · 20/01/2018 19:24

Cashmere joggers here. The only respectable way to wear marl jogging bottoms and keep me so cosy. (silk hareems in summer).

Peopleplease · 20/01/2018 20:51

I just can’t see myself in leather leggings. My legs are pretty chunky (I’m only 5 foot 2 and a pear shape).

My kids would ruin cashmere - maybe when they’re older.

I’ll have a look at next. My fabulous tweed trousers were actually from there but it was 10 years ago!

I have these marant track pants, track pants sooo comfortable and very stylish, I wear them with blazers, oversized knits, goes well with almost everything ,
Another great option is cropped trousers, they sound intimidating but they are actually so easy to pull off, with the right shoes.
There are lots of other options out there, and once you start experimenting with other styles/fabrics, you will find yourself wearing jeans les often.
