Can anything improve the look of Pores! I hate them

I’m 38 and my skin is pretty good apart from the little bastards! I’ve got them on my nose (why do they like to appear on noses?😠) and some are even appearing on my lower forehead now!! Primer helps with their appearance but it doesn’t last long

So I know there’s probably no actual off the shelf products that help but am willing to pay for actual treatment

Like would microdermabrasion help or laser treatment or something? Help! 🙈

Facials can help

PhyllisWig · 20/01/2018 08:51

Do you have a good skin regime as in regular? I only ask because I waiver from a proper double cleanse/acid tone/serum and moisturise twice a day (for some bits) to a barely showing a flannel to my face/shoving it under the shower type skin care plan.

I am a porey bastard too but proper regime definitely helps their appearance.

Best actual product for me has been azelaic acid from the ordinary - that and the buffet are on repurchase and my skin texture is heaps better.

Bubba what sort of facials plse ? X

Phylis- I think I do!! I do the Oil cleansing method and have done for about 6 years. If you’re not familiar with that basically you just slap on a pure oil, rub it in then take it all off with a hot wrung out cloth. I use pure organic coconut oil and do it morning and night

I then follow with boots no 7 protect and perfect advance followed by an spf (atm use la Roche posay anthelois factor 50)

I also barely wear make up as my work is very physical so I don’t want to sweat it off. I wear a primer if that. Then a bit more at the weekends but still only mascara / bit of eyeliner

I'd recommend changing your oil to jojoba.

On the comedogenic scale, coconut oil is rated 4, fairly high. And while some people swear by it for facial care, at least as many again say it's a no no. (There's lots about it on Google.)

And I'm one of the ones who would run a mile from it - pepperoni pizza with extra sweetcorn face follows, I've tried it.

TeachesOfPeaches · 20/01/2018 20:10

I've put a bag over my head. Works a treat.

CrispyAubergine · 20/01/2018 20:11

Lol teaches 🤣🤣

Oh ok Thedevil didn’t know that! My skin seems to love it though. Will give jojoba a try, thanks Flowers

My pores and sebaceous filaments are now non existent. Rather than faff with masks and stuff I have a sauna regularly and use a glycolic toner (Freedom) straight afterward.

I use a cheap basic Salicylic acid face wash each morning, then micellar water and an spf moisturiser.

I take my make up off with almond oil and a hot flannel, cleanse after with Glycolic toner (Freedom) and the chuck on night cream.

It’s cheap and unexciting but it is effective.

mrsrhodgilbert · 20/01/2018 22:08

HoneyDragon, what exactly is yourSalicylic acid face wash?

HoneyDragon · 20/01/2018 22:30

My favourite is this and I use it all the time, (unless I can’t get hold of it, then I’ll grab whatever in boots) as it’s a cream and leaves my skin feeling soft and really clean.

I prefer it to much more expensive brands and it’s usually picked up for a quid in places like B&M.

But lots have it in, just check the ingredients Smile

FartsMeanHearts · 20/01/2018 22:32

BHA Paula’s choice or CosRX

riledandharrassed · 20/01/2018 22:33

There isn't much point in SA face washes I'm afraid - they aren't in contact with your skin long enough to make a difference.

TO Niacinamide is great for tightening up pores - I love it but heard its very hit and miss for people

Loz604 · 20/01/2018 22:36

I’ve heard rose water is good at closing/minimising pores. Maybe worth looking into.

Tistheseason17 · 20/01/2018 22:40

Ooh very interesting, thanks

DaisyRenton18 · 21/01/2018 00:21

The Aldi 3 minute peel works wonders on mine for a few days. I think if I actually remembered to use it more than once a month or so my nose and cheeks would look so much better for it!

Pistachiois50pmore · 21/01/2018 06:49

As a PP has said, switch to a less comedogenic oil for cleansing, but also add in an acid toner. I like my The Ordinary chemistry set as much as the next skincare nerd but if you're new to acids I'd recommend something like Pixi glow tonic. Or the new Solution from Glossier looks interesting but I haven't tried that yet.

And if you're using a primer have a look at the ingredients list. Most of them are full of silicone (ingredients ending in "-cone") which hide pores in the short term but long term can make them worse.

CrispyAubergine · 22/01/2018 18:32

Thanks all

Definitely some food for thought 💭
