Best shampoo and conditioner to give hair volume?

Ah the holy grail. I’ve been looking for years and bought many on recommendations from on here. I think my hair is just way finer than the people who give recomendations.

However watching with optimism.

I had a good result with Dove anti aging,in fact t it made my hair too full

EatSleepRantRepeat · 19/01/2018 18:56

L'oreal volumetry shampoo and conditioner is great for fine oily hair (would avoid it if you get dry hair though) - my friend who's a hairdresser recommended it to me. It smells lovely and it also stops the greasy lanky feeling. I've gone from washing every day to 2-3 days which is a massive result for me. Otherwise Kerastase Densifique is brilliant if you can afford something a bit pricier

crackerjacket · 19/01/2018 19:04

Skip the conditioner.

Redken Cleansing Creme, Johnsons baby shampoo, Alberto Balsam Tea Tree Tingle.

Wash it twice. Dry upside down. Add hairspray - style dependent.

Straight or wavy/curly?

I did like Elvive Fibrology but you can't use it all the time as you get so much buildup.

However I have wavy fine hair - super fine but lots of it. Going SLS and silicone free has given me far far more volume than any fine hair product. Can't do full Curly Girl and drop the shampoo as the hair gets too weighted down but SLS free shampoo, loads of condition and then gel when soaking wet.

Masses of volume as more curl than I thought my hair possessed. Even more if dried upside down with a diffuser.

Not a shampoo but I use Tigi Bed Head - Motormouth cream/lotion before drying and it works a treat! Just 2 pumps. Makes your hair feel a lot thicker and I find also less frizz.

I've had to perfect a whole routine to increase volume. Not sure a shampoo alone is enough

RegionalTreasure · 20/01/2018 20:28

Chinese could you possibly share your routine on here? My hair is thinning due to medical issues and I'll try absolutely anything at this point.

TheChineseChicken · 20/01/2018 20:35

Well, it starts with a very good cut, just the right length of layers (some quite short). Then I use herbal essences daily detox shampoo and conditioner. Wrap in towel for a bit then spray this: m.feelunique.com/p/Schwarzkopf-got2b-Mind-Blowing-Xpress-Dry-Spray-200ml?url=Schwarzkopf-got2b-Mind-Blowing-Xpress-Dry-Spray-200ml&slang=EN&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj7WN3rHn2AIVbL7tCh2Q3w8xEAQYASABEgK8vvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds and comb though. Then while blow drying a turn my head upside down halfway through and blast the roots, the finish off with a round brush lifting at the roots. Well, you did ask!

jemmstar1980 · 20/01/2018 20:41

I’ve got fine hair and still live in hope it will look like Kim Kardashian’s one day! The things I find work are just a tiny bit of condition on the ends and then make the final rinse with cold water. Nixon thickening spray is really good.

fairgame84 · 20/01/2018 20:46

Kerastase resistance volumifique worked wonders with my hair.

RegionalTreasure · 20/01/2018 22:51

Thanks Chinese, I'm going to try all those things. With regard to the cut, do you find having your hair a particular length or style works best?

starzig · 20/01/2018 23:06

Tigi bed head rockstar.

Lucymek · 20/01/2018 23:07

Fibreology range from L'Oréal. Defo a winner

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2018 06:35

Yep, I have to keep it quite short. It's about jaw length. I had to give up my wish to have long hair! My Hairdresser cuts the underneath slightly shorter than the top so it turns under nicely at the bottom, then I have slightly diagonal layers at the sides, getting longer towards the front. The shortest ones are about 2/3 of the total hair length. Sounds odd but really works

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2018 06:43

But it's all about finding a good hairdresser

jack2001 · 21/01/2018 09:56

@RegionalTreasure have you tried the Nixon range for thinning hair?

I have a few hair extensions in the back of my hair to thicken it up. Works well

lcl · 21/01/2018 10:00

John Frieda volume shampoo and conditioner work great. Also Swazkoff got 2 b powder ful is a great volumising powder. I also blow dress my hair with a babyliss big hair which is great on long hair.

RegionalTreasure · 21/01/2018 15:09

Thanks Chinese and Jack, I'll look into that range and I might actually change my hairdresser, try to find one who can actively help very fine hair. I too longed for lovely long hair, but it's not to be. Ah well.
