What’s the best time to floss.

By floss I do mean teeth. So when? After you’ve brushed your teeth or before. Are you a mid-termer? If so why?! And then.... in the morning or in the evening. My dentist said I should floss at least once a day, but when I asked when he responded with whenever! But what has maximum effect?!

I don't know the answer but I do it before bed, I find it a real chore and mornings are busy enough!

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/01/2018 22:47

I use teepee brushes in the morning, floss at night.

Gwenhwyfar · 17/01/2018 22:50

After brushing I think. Doesn't matter if day or night.

prettymess · 17/01/2018 22:52

I do it after brushing. But I’m thinking maybe before would make more sense?

ooos · 17/01/2018 23:01

I only floss at night because I'm not awake enough to trust myself not to shred my gums open of a morning

I brush teeth, floss and then mouthwash to swill out any bacteria/bits ect that have been unclogged from flossing

CantChoose · 17/01/2018 23:31

My mum is a dentist and always told me to floss in the evening, before brushing.

CantChoose · 17/01/2018 23:32

I think because of the unclogged bits like ooos says. I mouthwash at lunchtime, if I remember...

DontMakeMeShushYou · 17/01/2018 23:41

I use the tepe brushes and floss as some of my teeth are so close together I can't get the tepe between them.

I tend to floss after cleaning my teeth, although I've always believed it should be done first. So sometimes I'll give my teeth a second brush after flossing as well as before. Usually only at night as mornings are somewhat more rushed and I was always taught that brushing at night is more important than in the morning.

Daisy2315 · 17/01/2018 23:42

I floss before brushing my teeth.

TreadSoftly · 17/01/2018 23:44

The week before I am due to go to the dentist again 😬

Jigglytuff · 17/01/2018 23:44

My hygienist says before. She was shocked I didn’t know that and didn’t believe me that most people do it after.

MinesaPinot · 18/01/2018 13:41

My dentist said it didn't matter when I did it, so long as I did it once a day, but did say floss, then brush, and then swill either with water or mouthwash.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 18/01/2018 13:43

Before. I have a water flosser. Currently on Invisalign, so floss about 4 times a day!

That’s what my dentist said too. To loosen all the bits before you brush.

What are the water flosser things like? Am considering one.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 18/01/2018 14:23

Pretty good. I got it ahead of getting fixed retainers after invisalign finished. I struggled with flossing at the back by my wisdom teeth, but not with this. Feels cleaner than floss.

Undies1990 · 18/01/2018 14:45

Not helpful in answering your question, but please don't do it whilst sitting at your desk at work (like my colleague does!). The sound is absolutely revolting. Angry

HuskyMcClusky · 18/01/2018 14:55

Undies, wtf?!! FOUL.

Echogirl · 18/01/2018 14:56

Thanks can't choose that's very helpful as I go to the dentist every 6 months and didn't know That you should floss before brushingSmile
