Help me go grey gracefully?

Anyone got any good tips? My natural hair is medium / dark brown with some natural auburn shades through it. It gets a bit lighter in the summer in the front and sometimes get some blondish streaks when I have had a lot of sun exposure.

Now I've reached a certain age, the silver is shining through wherever I part my hair. I get a medium/dark brown semi permanent colour from the hairdresser every 3 months or so which is fine except I think I lose a lot of the natural tonal variations in my own colour which I miss. By the end of month 2 it is needing redone but I'm a bit lazy about maintenance. I have experimented with highlights in the past but my hair tends to go a bit orange which isn't pretty.

How should I be doing my hair and colouring it? My hair is straight and long (halfway down my back). I've gone shortish before but it doesn't suit me at all.

Gosh I miss the lovely hair of my teens and twenties - of course I never appreciated it at the time

You could use a semi permanent box colour. Or just let the grey grow through naturally.
