Civil service assessment centre

I've been invited to a civil service assessment centre and need to get a couple of smart outfits.

I have been working in voluntary sector for 7-8 years, most recently in senior management roles. I often met with civil servants and parliamentary types.

My go-to would be a smart dress. However I am breastfeeding and will be doing so during the breaks in the assessment day. So I can't go for a smart shift.

I've ordered some button-front and jersey wraps from Boden, midi-length. I would have worn them in my previous role (as would my chief executive!) but not sure if they are the right thing here. I worry they are a bit Kirstie Allsopp?

What do you think, especially if you work in this environment?

I work in a Civil Service Department. A few women wear suits but most dress “smart casual.” I interview candidates and as long as you aren’t a scruff bag or wearing jeans and trainers which you won’t be, I think your ideas sound fine!

I'm a civil servant (Are you applying to a graduate scheme by any chance??) I wore an Isabella Oliver black wrap dress and heels to my assessment centre and was a bit overdressed if anything. Trousers, smart flats and a naice blouse type top/shell top would be what I would choose now. But yeah as long as you don't look like a real scruff you're fine. Good luck!
