Pointless little rant about the time refunds take!

Just need to get it off my chest! If some companies can refund quickly (Sosander, Hush, Boden, Poetry) why does it take others so bloody long. (I think I know the answer!). I try and make big expenditures at the beginning of a cc billing period, so if I'm not keeping stuff the money will be back on my card before the bill is due and I don't have to pay anything. But Pure Collection - they received parcel 10 days ago, and I'm still waiting (CS says I just need to wait). Sweaty Betty - into the third week, no reply from CS and after chasing them on FB CS does confirm they received it 30 Dec (yes, I know!) and if I haven't had money back in another week to let them know and they will refund it (why not do it right now?) and Baukjen who emailed me a week ago to say they had the items, but still haven't refunded. I know sales periods are busy, blah blah, but it's hardly unexpected and as I said, other companies appear to have systems in place to cope. Ok, self centred moan over.

Grrr totally with you on this!

yawnyawnyawnyawn · 17/01/2018 13:42

I order stuff through John Lewis it next for this reason because you can take it back to stores and it goes back on your card quicker !

Brandalley are the worst for this. They say their refund period is 45 days. Both times that I’ve returned to them I’ve waited until 69 days and emailed them complaining, at which point they refund me straight away. So...what if I hadn’t emailed them? Would they just never have refunded me? I only checked because it was at a time when finances were really tight so I had to account for every penny. There have been times when I haven’t kept a close eye on my bank account because finances have been fairly comfortable so I wouldn’t have known. Just not on.

endthefarts · 17/01/2018 13:55

Sorry, 60 days. I am not that oddly specific about the amount of days I waited to email them.

AnaViaSalamanca · 17/01/2018 14:00

Jigsaw - bought something on boxing day. Never delivered (to store, so can't say it's was lost in the mail). Trying to get a refund. Still haven't received a response from them...

As luck has it, I decided to order the same item from John Lewis, that entire order got lost in the mail too (!!!), but I have received the refund for that thankfully.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/01/2018 14:04

I know it's not a S&B purchase but I returned a book to an online company on 16 December. Money was refunded yesterday. Over a month!

pixelchick10 · 17/01/2018 14:17

I agree - I was waiting for ages for one from Gant (they’d done it in store). Turned out they had only refunded the ‘free’ delivery charge so I got zilch to my account until I chased and they admitted the error. To be fair once the main call centre got onto it it was sorted v fast ... Adidas also seemed to take forever but sportsshoes.com are quick as are Hush and Boden - as you say, if some can do it, why can’t others

ilovecherries · 17/01/2018 16:05

I think it's probably more that they choose not to do it, rather than can't do it, to be honest. Multiply our money by who knows how many others and it's a nice little cash injection for a month or however long it takes. During which time they may well have sold the items again, so there's a period of time where they have two (or more!) lots of money in their bank accounts.

endthefarts Brandalley took forever to give me a refund. I emailed them and they refunded me that same day, try emailing them early in the day.

TealStar · 17/01/2018 16:30

Baukjen are terrible. Twice recently I’ve had to chase them, and lo and behold they’ve always managed to sort it straightaway over the phone (as an aside, their call operatives are really snooty too!). They seem to take an age between telling you that the return is received and actually refunding it. Such a shame as I love their clothes and am a good customer of theirs.

Never had any probs with Brand Alley.

AdiosPeaceOfRoast · 17/01/2018 17:06

GAP recently - takes weeks. Shipping really slow now too.

arousingcheer · 17/01/2018 17:14

Mango are terrible for this (though not a patch on some of the experiences upthread). I won't use them again.

On the other hand I returned some stuff to Kettlewell (they have prepaid 48hr tracked returns) and the money was back in my bank something like three or four days later.

GlubGlubGlub · 18/01/2018 13:40

Ted baker are awful at this. They could firmed that they had received my returns but it took a further 3 weeks and several calls to get my£400 back!
