A good hotbrush for cropped hair?

Well the title says it all, really. I have been given a really good crop a la Linda Evangelista in the early 90s. But I'm crap at blow-drying and think a hotbrush would give me the right lift and volume etc.

I've got a Babyliss Big hair. My hair is pretty short, but not cropped. I really like it and feel it was well worth the money. However, I think the issues are that the brush itself is big, so you need a certain amount of hair to wrap round it and that you also need to be able to create some tension on the hair as you pull through, iyswim.
