Style for dates please!

First time on these boards, so please be gentle!
I'm recently single again, 45 and feel all frumpy.
I'm 6', size 16, big boobs, a tummy I want to hide...
Normal style is sort of 90s indie, short skirts with boots type thing.
I feel unfashionable, way too stocky and frumpy. What should I be wearing for dates? Daytime coffee ones, or first meal in the evening.
Oh and I can't afford much. 🙄

Thank you!!

I'd not dress too differently, you want to feel confident...what style tops do you wear usually? what style boots? maybe stick to your style but smarten each item up a notch?
have a look on pinterest for ideas too

Thank you - it's normally plain grey or stripey top, black or denim miniskirt with converse boots or flat ankle boots.
I feel comfortable in them, it just doesn't feel very 'datey' and I don't know how to zhuzh it up without going dressy!

For a daytime date I usually wear jeans but with a more striking top.

Can you swap your usual tops for something a bit more interesting?Something flattering that fits well with a bit of colour? Personally I avoid florals these days but other prints can be good.

For evening it doesn't need to be that different depending on where you are going. Maybe add some interesting jewellery?

Different people have very different ideas about what constitutes suitable date wear however. It really is best to be yourself. It is important that you are comfortable.

I don't buy a lot of clothes due to budget constraints but I find TKMaxx useful.

Good luck!

Yeah I could do with a more fancy top probably. I don't have any smart jeans really (and not easy to get at my height, hence wearing a lot of short skirts instead!) not keen to the floral thing either tbh, or the cold shoulder thing.
Maybe I should embrace this ankle skimmer trouser thing - all mine are too short anyway - I'll be bang on trend 😂

I would just buy a new outfit that fitted my style and go all out on grooming hair, nails, brows etc. No point in turning up as a completely different person x have fun.

If the short skirts work for you stick with them. A black or denim mini skirt can be worn with a variety of tops in the same way as jeans. I'm 5 foot 1 and a pear shape so those skirts don't work well for me but at your height it makes sense.

That old favourite the Hush ruched skirt is very versatile, and you could adjust the length to suit your height.
