Travel Backpacks

I'd like one that will work as carry on - IE, hold loads, lots of pockets – but still looks quite stylish... does that exist?
I'm not planning on hiking anywhere, more city breaks with kids, so I'm not after a North Face/Osprey style.

I think the Kanken straps will be too narrow and hurt my shoulders once fully loaded.

Not leather, fake leather is fine.

Any ideas?

Check out Sophia and Matt backpacks-they keep popping up on my FB timeline and they’re really nice...think the straps may be leather though.
Or maybe Fossil?

Have you got padded straps on your Kanken? I use my Maxi or Big to travel, fully loaded, fits tons and really comfortable..I use Eagle Creek packing cubes when using as a carry on. You can also buy the padded straps separately. I then use it for pounding the streets as my day pack, the fact that's it's that actual bag itself is so light if only carrying essentials is a real plus and I use the seat pad loads!

Doesn't the bigger sized Kånken have broader straps? "Kånken Big".

CrypticClues · 14/01/2018 19:14

Ooh, ok... I might look again then. I quite like the Kanken, but I love some me some pockets...

I have a tumi bavkpack (outlet shopping). Loads of pockets, light, lifetime warranty. Good as a travel backpack, light enough for everyday

CrypticClues · 14/01/2018 19:47

Sentence - they are lovely – way over my budget sadly, but well done on your outlet find!

Have you looked into "Muji", the Japanese make? "Side Zipper Pocket Backpack"
I think I'd prefer it to Kånken. Things by "Muji" seems to be of good quality (so is Kånken but it's more outdoorsy...)

baublesnbubbles · 14/01/2018 20:10

Have you seen tiba and Marl backpack - they keep popping up on my instagram feeds

jamaisjedors · 14/01/2018 20:44

Knomo? I have one of their bags, not a backpack, and it's great, zillions of pockets!

CrypticClues · 14/01/2018 20:56

Baubles... I keep coming back to Tiba & Marl. But it's a changing bag. I know I can take the mat etc out, I just need to get over the idea in my own mind that I'm buying a changing bag Grin

going to google muji and knomo, thank you.

Tiba + Marl is awesome. I know it's a changing bag but it's not really Grin I use it when DD is not with me as it's so roomy and practical. And I love that it's an quality faux leather as it's waterproof and unlike real leather it doesn't scuff and rub easily (I'm looking at you All Saints as your leather backpack which started falling apart after one week Hmm)
The fact that the interior is waterproof is god sent also as are the multiple pockets and side pockets (for shades and water bottle). In short, a step above changing bag and looks beautiful.

baublesnbubbles · 14/01/2018 22:48

Argh see now I want to try t and m bags !

affectionincoldclimate · 15/01/2018 10:24

@baublesnbubbles Grin
They are great.
I have Miller backpack in faux leather.

If I did it again. I'll go for Elwood as it's just that bit bigger.

Ps. T+ B also come with a lovely cross body mini bag which you can use for documents and bits when travelling or as a going out bag.
