Jewellery auctions...

Hi, I'm interested in buying some jewellery, and people have suggested buying second hand/vintage. After having looked in high street shops and not found what i'm after, I would like to look at auctions. Does anyone have any experience with buying jewellery from auction houses, and do you have any you would recommend? I have never done it before, and it's a bit overwhelming. Thank you

I’ve bought from e bay, usually from private sellers, they’ve all been genuine people. I’ve also sold some inherited items. It’s an ok system, if you know exactly what you are buying. Although, I wouldn’t buy anything over £100 this way. The item may be as described, but a lot can be missed out!
I prefer to buy from antique centres or jewellers who specialise in Vintage/ antique jewellery, there are a few on the internet.

I've bought at auction but only after years of buying second hand in stores.

If you're unsure I'd start with second hand jewellers.

Where do you live?
I buy vintage jewellery a lot and prefer antique jewellers and antique fairs
Tend to buy things if I think they are undervalued and wear them until I get bored with them
I treated myself to a diamond pendant for a few weeks ago as a Christmas present to myself which cost me £90, just had it valued at £700
My best bargain ever was an opal ring which I paid £85 for at an antiques fair - I had to have the setting repaired recently and they told me the stone was worth £3500!

Yes, bought my engagement ring from a well-known local auction. It took a while to find something I liked but by that time we'd had a good look around and I had a very good idea of what I wanted. I'm very pleased with it and when I had it valued it was worth 7 x what we paid.
