What children's wear brands have the 'cool factor'?

Is there such thing as avant-garde children's clothes? What clothing brands do you think have the 'cool' factor? I want to get my children some stylish clothes for an event we've been invited to but I want to find something unusual and sort of sophisticated streetwear (does that exist for kids - I'm sure it must!) - Any ideas/tips/brand names/styling ideas?

I just had a look on the Dover Street Market site as their adult clothes are avant-garde and gorgeous. But the kids stuff is dull stripey tees. Will keep looking.

Yes I thought of DSM too but couldn't find a children's section. I'll check those brands too thanks.

TBH i always think it's slightly cringeworthy when people dress their kids up in 'cool' clothes. Some children do have quite a developed sense of style which is one thing, but dressing them up as an extension of your own style is a bit desperate. No one is ever fooled that a 3 year old is a big fan of the ramones or really into obscure japanese skate wear!

What type of cool are you going for? Cos style oversized shapes/deconstructed etc. or just coloured, unusual prints in normal shapes?

Cool band tees are a no from me.

I think Zara or H&M have 'cool' kids clothes.

I think kenzo do some great kids clothes as do moschino. (I wish I could afford them )

I dress my boy in Zara, H&M, river island and instagram shops for everyday wear.
We also buy the odd bit of designer if I see anything I really like.

Shoe wise he wears timberlands, converse, dr Martens also boot type shoes.

My son (IMO) always looks cool . He is 6 and wears skinny jeans from h and m ,plain jumpers/ hoodies / shirts from next or h and m / Zara . Timberland type boots and a gilet or Puffa . I think wearing nice clean stylish clothes is the key . I know some people don't have money to spend on new clothes but so often I see kids wearing clothes that are dirty/ too small / washed out . IMO you don't need to spend a lot if you have a good eye and pass it on when it's worn out.

Those saying H&M and Zara, I do agree that Zara has some great children's wear but ethically (don't hate me) I would rather not shop there, their supply chain's are murky to say the least and the clothes, especially t'shirts, literally fall apart at the seams within 1 or 2 washes.

Mini Rodini is a good call, I've never ordered from there though but I assume quality is good since they have a big following? I have been looking on Smallable this afternoon and found some other brands with really nice prints and was also on Vestiare Collective Kids section and spotted some lovely things that could be options so there is progress. Thank you for your advice so far

mini rodini is a fave for mine & bobo choses. H&M has some good bits & I also like Little Kitt.

2nd Mini Rodini. Indie brands like Tobias and the Bear, Tiny Cottons. Oeuf NYC are good but spendy. Cos have a sale on at the mo. Uniqlo is good for things like black roll necks (because I think it's hilarious to dress my toddler like a tiny Sartre.)

If you look at instagram-y kids online stores you'll see a few brands you might not have thought of. I like This Modern Life and Scout & Co.

No, I imagine it's more to do with tastes in fashion, ethical issues like cruelty free clothes/non sweatshop made/no fast fashion etc. More general beliefs and attitudes to life than religious ones.

I agree that “cool” wise it has to be H and M and Zara. But I also really like a few things from Next online and also www.polarnopyret.co.uk/ have some nice things.

Surely the absolute coolest shudder would be individually made? i.e. made for you child only?

@PhilODox Well it would make it unique (but not necessarily 'cool' as in street-cool) but I don't have (m)any children's tailors on speed-dial or in my social circle! I would define 'cool' as being something of a mix of low and high culture so traditional 'street' styles being stylised for the kid's clothing market with prints, colours, details.

Next do have some nice things too but were they not embroiled in some some labour ethics scandal in their sewing factories?

A child having clothes made for them probably wouldn't be described as cool. I don't think anyway. They might look shit.
