I need your recommendations please people! My legs are so dry and itchy. Some creams I have tried just sting :(

Aveeno body moisturiser is great.

Runlovingmummy81 · 11/01/2018 22:00

I've tried that before but found it too greasy. X

Bought these 2 recently on Amazon

GarnierHydroLock

GarnierBodyRepair

The 1st one is thicker & doesn't feel greasy to me. The second one is lighter and more of a lotion.

I wouldn't use any of these types of product - they seem too chemical to me or with soap ingredients in them. I also avoid anything with lanolin. I'd use generic aqueous cream for washing and then as a leave on cream skin salvation, generic emollients or E45. I have eczema so am careful what I use and need a lot moisturising sometimes.

Go to the doctor and get a steroid cream or get some hydrocortisone from the chemist and some zeroderm cream. Apply moisturiser immediately after towel drying.

I like coconut oil - it's soothing, fragrance-free but smells lovely and lasts longer than water-based moisturisers - but as pp says a bit of cortisone cream might stop the itch/scratch cycle.

Also make sure your health is in order. There are medical issues that can cause itchy skin. When I wasn't on enough thyroid medication my legs were so itchy in bed I couldn't sleep and I ended up scratching them with a hairbrush every night to avoid tearing them to pieces. It would start in one small place and as soon as I scratched it it would spread until both legs were unbearable. Have never had it when my meds are right. (Could be coincidental but it seems related to me.)

Pure Argan oil works miracles on my dry scaly legs!

Runlovingmummy81 · 12/01/2018 08:12

Thanks for the advice ladies. I'll try some coconut oil first as I have some here already. Sometimes they itch at night but not all the time. My healthier is pretty good I think. I eat well and exercise a lot. X

I am using the Sanctuary one - you put it on straight after you shower, when you are still dripping. The effect seems to last. My legs were really dry and scaly but this has sorted them out.

Runlovingmummy81 · 12/01/2018 08:29

Is that the miracle moisture one? I actually used that on holiday in Oct but ran out. Good shout as that seemed to work for me too. Thanks x

E45 Anti Itch cream and over the counter 1% hydrocortisone cream when it's really bad.
I also use Norwegian Formula lotion after my bath and it's completely cleared my itchy, dry skin.
