As its a free service I wonder whether there is a pressure to buy?
Has anyone done the 1 or 2 hour service?
I would like to find a dress shape that suits me for a special outfit but I am worried that what they pick out might be very expensive and there will be a pressure to buy.
I also need new jeans - probably more urgently than the dress. Do you think they can find me something flattering or will it be a case of telling me something looks good so there is a sale?

I did this, but had a chunk of money (£500) to spend and a desperate need of a wardrobe overhaul after 5 years as a SAHM.

It was brilliant for me. I told her what sort of events I needed clothes for (work; going out for a drink) and the personal shopper totally sorted me out. There was no pressure to buy anything, and she said occasionally people go away empty handed, which is completely fine. And she found me clothes which really suited me and made me feel fabulous, from shops off my beaten track (Hobbs, Bruce Oldfield, Jaegar). I still wear them all regularly and it gave me a much-needed confidence boost. Would definitely go again.

I’m interested in this too. Has anyone done the House of Fraser one?

UpABitLate · 11/01/2018 21:18

I did it when I needed some stuff and fast for a different country, working.
She did me up like Hilary ? Devay from dragons den v 80s power dressing I was 35 at time Grin

No pressure to buy though.

I'd say it depends who you get and if they understand/ get your style.

Give it a go for sure nothing to lose!

I did this and still wear one piece I would never have thought of buying and love. No pressure to buy, great selection. Plus anyway it's John Lewis so you could always just return it if you bought under pressure anyway.

Friend dies House of Fraser and raves about it. Always looks great, very stylish.

Yes - I've done it once for an evening dress and then I went back for another session for work clothes (I asked for the same lady as she was so good). No pressure to buy, and she really listened to my requirements and didn't push me into things that were outside my comfort zone.

Yes. Did two hours at John Lewis when I went back to a corporate job after four years of caesareans and casually dressed jobs (and drinking to numb the panic of being a mum). Spent £1100 and then took some back because I couldn’t cope with that amount. We were doing “fits” and “doesn’t fit” piles and were then supposed to do a “buy” pile afterwards but she slightly bamboozled me into buying it all. I’d do it again and was really pleased to find brands I’d never considered before. I really needed a complete overhaul though. Not sure if I’d do two hours without needing quite a few things. Go for it!

I need a dress for my baby’s christening and I got overwhelmed trying stuff on esp as I don’t know what suits me now. I’ve seen House of Fraser do an occasion wear one so maybe i’ll try it. They wouldn’t mind me bringing my baby along would they?
