Smudged eyeliner and mascara

I'm suddenly finding that I often have greyish marks under my eyes from smudged eyeliner and/or mascara by the end of the day, but I haven't changed brands or methods. (They're not exactly posh brands, but they've stayed on fine in the past.)

What might I be doing differently without realising it, and/or do make-up fixing sprays work?

you need to find a better mascara. Sometimes our skin or our needs change especially as we get older, and i cant do cheap for as many things before.

I got a really really good smudgeproof one in my beauty advent calendar which im going to continue to buy. Its by Eyeko. It doesnt smudge one bit and it seriously lasts all day without budging.

Thanks Branleuse! I am certainly getting older (well, we all are, but I'm over 50 so it is probably relevant in my case) and although the thought of paying £19 for mascara is a bit scary, it's got to be worth a try.

Is it definitely likely to be the mascara rather than the eyeliner, do you think? It's hard to tell as it's usually black mascara and dark browny grey eyeliner.

Try a tubing mascara I use the loreal one in a red and white tube it has primer one end mascara the other, it doesn't smudge at all and comes off with water.

Eyeko are amazing IMo

Their "sport"waterproof kohl and mascaras are ace

I would try a tubing type mascara first to be honest eg the No7 one which is about a tenner. It forms little tubes around your lashes which you remove with warm water so it doesn’t smudge like an inky type one will. I’ve tried a couple of Eyeko ones and haven’t found them great. Definitely not worth the money.
