What to wear to a non job interview job interview?

I've been invited by a contact in the industry I used to work in for a coffee and a chat about upcoming opportunities at their firm.

I want to make a good impression but it's not a job interview per se - what to wear? What would you wear? I'm a bit stuck

I'd wear 'caj' Friday. A nice pair of jeans or black jeans, shirt and jumper, boots and a coat. Accessorise with a nice necklace! Best of luck x

Believe me, it's a job interview. It may not be in that person's gift to offer you the job, but it will be in their power to stop you getting any further in the process. I'd dress for a serious business meeting, whatever that means in that particular industry. But not necessarily new stuff - something you know is comfortable and you feel at ease in, do you aren't fiddling/pulling buttons etc. And a decent notebook and pen! Good luck - I used to do some preliminary head hunting 'coffees', be relaxed, and know the company/the strategic environment etc.

What type of industry is it? What type of thing would you expect to actually wear to work if you had a job there?

A smarter version of smart casual.

Or smart.

Or job interview, but slightly casualised.....

I'd wear something similar to how you would dress if you were working there.

I think you want business casual here (I’m a headhunter, I do these coffees)
Nice dress, smart trousers and top... everything up to but not including a blazer.

Thanks everyone for confirming what I thought - I was erring on the side of smarter than I would normally for a coffee type situation (say with a friend) I'll have a dig about my wardrobe. I'm thinking a phase eight or similar dress, chunky necklace, dig out my Bayswater bag . Thanks again!
