British made coats and duffle coat sizing

In summary:

  • Are traditional duffle coats all designed to be big and loose?
  • Can anyone recommend a british coat maker?

Random ramblings:
I want a British made coat. I've been looking at Gloverall and Original Montgomery. If anyone else can suggest some alternative brands to look at that would be fab. :)

I'd particularly like a duffle coat (I'm aware I may look like a fictional bear but I'll be warm so I'll be happy). Looking online however, their duffle coats seem to be oversized which at 5'3" and a size 12 I just can't carry off. I'm not sure if the "slim" coats are really that much different.

Are they that huge and sack-like in reality? Nowhere near me stocks them so I can't look at them and I've alreasy spent over £10 returning coats!

I bought this as a compromise www.originalmontgomery.com/womens-paddock-coat-red but it was huge! The shoulders were half way down my arms and the sleeves covered my entire hand.

I rather like this one and think the shape is better suited for me (admittedly it's not really a duffle): www.gloverall.com/womens/women-s-swing-duffle-coat.html but it is too much. Sob.

I've seen British made duffel coats in The Sweater Shop before, this was some time ago but they don't really change much so could still stock them. I didn't try on so couldn't comment on the sizing.

I have a Gloverall slim duffle coat. It is not like a sack. It has space for big jumpers underneath, it is not tight, but it is certainly not a sack.

I love it, it keeps me warm in the Berlin winter.

They seem to be in fashion at the moment, I see them on lots of people, more so than last year. Uniqlo had a duffle coat in their collection in the Autumn, maybe they still have it in their assortment?

But sorry, you specifically wanted British made.

I have a slim fit ladies duffle from Gloverall, and it fits true to size.

I've got a gloverall and absolutely love it. It's a traditional straight cut mid-length. I'm not sure what size it is as I got it 2nd hand and the only label in it says '32'. I'm a size 12, 5'6" and it fits very well with room for a sweater underneath. I'm quite broad-shouldered though, they might be baggy on a slighter build.
