Purple leather boots: Yay or Nay

My Fly London brown boots finally gave in just before Christmas. I am at 38 years old single parent of 2 DDs and my first year at Uni. I don't drive and I need another pair of comfy boots when I run between classes and picking my girls up. I loved the Moshulu boots in my local store but they didn't have my size and i need to buy it online now.

I love the Moshulu Heron boots. Ideally I would love a red pair as I liked the look of it or go for my normal brown (to go with everything) but these long ones only come in Black, Navy or Purple.
The shop assistant said that to go for the purple you always have to wear purple. At the time I was wearing a dark purple scarf but I don't wear alot of purple. In the winter I do tend to wear dark colours but in the summer I love bright colours. Then if I do go for Navy, would that match a lot of black that I wear. I always remember my mom saying that Navy shoes and black clothes just doesn't go. I just really don't want a black pair.
Can anyone who knows how to match advice me please.
The link Moshulu Heron

PS: I do have a heeled black boot, plus 2 black ankle boots and 3 tan/brown ankle boots. Plus various other different heeled ones for work or going out.

I’d get them. I have the red and the teal fly boots and wear them a lot, the colour hasn’t been an issue.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 08/01/2018 13:30

So much yes.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 08/01/2018 13:31

I think nowadays, black and navy are an acceptable combination. One that I quite like myself. I think the purple will go with plenty - navy, black, grey. Most colour jeans actually.

Appuskidu · 08/01/2018 13:34

I love the red pair but much less keen on purple. I don’t really wear purple as a colour though.

There are plenty of red/burgundy Fly boots onine (Amazon?) if that’s the colour you want?

Rollerbird · 08/01/2018 13:41

Can i just ask which Fly you had and how high up to your knee they versus those moshulu you linked to?

PanannyPanoo · 08/01/2018 13:46

I have very similar moshulu in purple. Rest of my boots are fly. I dgdmt know of the rule that I had to wear more purple with them! I wear them with my grey coat and havent been arrested yet! Really comfy and very lovely. soft leather that doesn't scuff. I have had mine for 3 years worn most autumn and winter days and the soles are just starting to wear.

AuntieStella · 08/01/2018 13:47

I think black is your 'head' choice, and purple the 'heart' one.

Have the purple and have fun!

ElfrideSwancourt · 08/01/2018 13:52

I love them- but I'm biased because I mostly wear purple.

CountFosco · 08/01/2018 13:57

I have purple DMs. I wear them with black, grey, forest green, and navy. Generally they are the only purple item of clothing in an outfit, although I do have a pair of purple tights that match. I think they are more flexible than black (which I would only wear with black or grey) or navy (which I would only wear with navy or forest green) TBH. I have rather a lot of purple shoes though so I'm maybe not the best person to ask!

UsernameInvalid66 · 08/01/2018 13:59

I've got some Fly boots that are not massively different from those - they're a colour that is somewhere right on the border between burgundy and purple, and I treat them as either, depending on what I'm wearing. If the colour you're interested in is the middle one in the photo you linked to, then they're quite similar. I've worn them with black, blue, grey, other shades of pink and purple, earthy colours - the only colours I can't really imagine wearing them with are a true bright red and maybe brightish greens (which I don't wear much anyway).

I'd go for it. I wouldn't go for navy for the same reason you mentioned, unless you wear a lot of navy and other blues - but the purple/burgundy boots would go well with that range anyway.

Yewtown · 08/01/2018 14:12

Purple all the way. It looks like a burgundy purple that will go will most colours. I have some purple boots, they are great with denim, grey anc black

HolgerDanske · 08/01/2018 14:24

Go for it. As above, there are loads of colours you can wear them with.

FairyFuckDailyMail · 08/01/2018 14:32

Rollerblind I had the Fly London Mol in brown.

Thank you everyone. It’s just response I was hoping for so I went ahead and ordered it. Order before 3 I can get it next day delivered so fingers cross I don’t miss my delivery.

I genuinely loved it as soon as I saw it in person in the shop but I’m a size 3 and they had no 3s in stock. Had to fit the size 4 on to check for comfort and I liked it.
Can’t wait now.

Btw just so you’re aware, current styling generally says black and navy are fine together. So you can get plenty of use out of the black boots that you already have, and you should also be able to wear your purple boots with a black/navy mixed wardrobe too.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 08/01/2018 15:00

Love the purple, just love them and I'm sitting on my hands not to get my credit card out Smile

goose1964 · 08/01/2018 22:36

Go for the purple,I used to have some purple shoes and they went with a lot of colours

ToftheB · 09/01/2018 11:11

Oh, I really love those boots.

You should go for the purple, I used to have some dr martens in that purple/maroon colour and they were great with jeans. I found them very versatile and I would buy again in that colour without hesitation.
