Anyone had a perm in the last decade??

Baby has just started grabbing my hair abd so I think I'm going to be tying it back for a few months. As it's not very thick it tends to look crap & age me though. The only time it has looked good tied back was years ago when I had a perm (which was so awful i never wore it down!). But do they still exist??

I think they're coming back. They're certainly back on salon price lists.

I had one last August. I don’t regret it. Mine was a Joico K-pak (I think).

Someone here did, I was sceptical but it looked bloody fantastic, not a bit of the Kevin Keegan about her.

Oh that's good to know! I just looked on the price list for the hairdresser i usually go to and there's nothing that looks like it could be a perm though

I would like a sort of 50s wave but no sign of perms on the price list here. I can only get the look I want if someone helps me with carmen rollers!

You need a vintage salon lots. What's your nearest big city?

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 07/01/2018 20:07

Liverpool or Manchester battleaxe. I have posted the question before but was living very remotely in a peculiar posting so it was rollers or nothing (and very often nothing as I am a bit crap!)

My SIL got a perm last year and she's 23. It looked great!

I only stopped having them recently as I'm growing my hair into a bob. Perms now are not at all like they used to be; I'd been having them for more than 25 years (Yikes!) and have seen the difference. The perms I had were very soft, done on the largest rods possible, and were more for body, texture and control than for curl. My stylist used to perm my hair then trim it afterwards, too. Most people never even knew my hair was permed.

I'd just speak to the head stylist in your chosen salon, to see if the look you want can be achieved.
