Shopping in Newcastle city v MetroCentre

A friend and I are considering a shopping trip to Newcastle. Are there any must visit 'only in Newcastle' shops that we should check out? And is it better to go to the MetroCentre or stay in the city centre?

We're both fairly easily pleased and shop at everywhere from Primark to Harvey Nick's!

Newcastle is a lovely city and the Metro centre is just a big shopping centre next to the A1, you can’t really compare the 2.
If you want pure shopping and nothing else then the Metro centre would be ok but I would rather do a city break with shopping

Newcastle has fenwick which is a really lovely department store. It has all the usual brands in it but is a lovely store. Newcastle has lots of restaurants and bars for during and after shopping.

Metro centre is great for being all under one roof, free parking, food court - just easy

City centre, definitely. So much more to see and do, and much better shops including Fenwicks and John Lewis. Great choice of food, too, and the quayside, art centres, bars - everything! Metro centre shops are pretty mundane, tbh and the food is dire.

Metro centre has no shops that any other shopping centre don’t have.
Go to Newcastle, they have lovely bars and restaurants and lots of shops, what kind of thing are you after and maybe we could point you in the right direction.

Although I am planning to call in to the metro centre tomorrow (HoF vouchers to use and planning a day out in that neck of the woods), I would normally choose the city centre. Far more pleasant atmosphere and better choice of independent shops.

Metro centre is good for parking, and convenience. There are lots of places to eat there so food isn't a problem. But for a lovely day out I would go city centre. Have lunch in cafe 21 in Fenwick, cafe royal or the botanist (fab view) and wander round Eldon Square and Grey Street. Have fun!

Newcastle, definitely... I've been today!

Fenwicks is great... especially the food hall. Stay in the city centre then everything is in walking distance 😁

I second the Botanist for lunch... or Bar Luga on Grey Street for Mussels and fat chips!

Newcastle hands down.

The metro centre is hideous

I like the metro because it's warm and dry, parking is easy etc. Do be aware that Newcastle city centre is very accessible from the metro via a v regular bus service so you could actually do both if you got your skates on
