Make up recommendations

I need to completely re do my current face make up collection. Nothing seems to be working for me atm. I currently use, L'Oréal lumi primer, maybelline eraser under eye concealer, Estée Lauder double wear light, some hula light bronzer and a light blush. My foundation is always dry and doesn't seem to go on well at all, my under eyes still have dark circles and my face just feels quite dull all the time. What would you recommend I try?x

If you feel nothing is working why not go and have a makeover? I have had good experiences with bare minerals recently.

Maybe you need to look into different skin care if your make up is caking up or drying out? Just a thought!

I saw a video on Mrs Gloss and the Goss and they were raving about the new Lancome foundation and said it was less drying than Doublewear, so maybe try and a get a sample of that. Why don’t you get a face oil and use that every night before night cream and see if your skin perks up? Could just be the cold weather/central heating/festive excess that’s conspiring against you.

Sounds like your skin may not be sufficiently hydrated before you start putting makeup on. Do you use serum/moisturiser first?

Double wear (even the light version) always cakes up around my nose. Go to a YSL counter and ask for a sample of the ‘All Hours’ foundation. Like your preferred DW Light it is a long wearing natural matte (but still luminous) finish. But it is the most gorgeous texture and finish. Applies like a dream. I tried over 20 foundations recently looking for a new one and it was hands down the best.

Also make sure you are cleansing properly (not just wipes) and using a hydrating serum and moisturiser. I also use an exfoliater every day - either Dermalogica daily microfoliant or the Nip and Fab Dragon blood salycylic acid pads. The exfoliation really helps with bright clear skin.

Are you a budget or higher end girl?

You need a new moisturiser, I like Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturiser. Try an eye cream to improve your under eye area - I use Kiehl’s eye opening serum

For foundation, you can’t go wrong with Armani Luminous Silk. The finish is gorgeous, it layers well with other products, photographs well and doesn’t look heavy. Most importantly, it is consistent as it’s easy to apply and works for all skin types so it won’t take you long to throw it on; you shouldn’t really have issues in your problem areas.

Have you tried layering concealer? Eg a cream product with a liquid or a liquid with a highlighter pen (think YSL touché eclat or MAC prep and prime highlighter). For problem undereyes, gently layering products helps as different areas of your undereyes may need a different solution (darkness, hollowed, puffy, creases etc). Also you can try a brightening setting powder

Setting sprays and a highlighter may be helpful. If anything, search best of makeup 2017 videos on YouTube to get caught up and find more product recommendations

I second Luminous Silk. So lovely. Worth every penny even though I get the vapours every time I shell out for it

BusterGonad · 07/01/2018 00:41

I use touch éclat for my dark circles and either Dior Star or Benefit hello oxygen wow for foundation or Clinique CC cream for a lighter look.

LiquidCosh · 07/01/2018 01:11

If you like a full coverage look you might like Dermablend from Vichy. My skin looks flawless when I use this stuff and I so many compliments on my complexion (which is actually really bad and uneven without this foundation!!)

Thanks will look into all of those, I think I have a pretty good skincare routine, I exfoliate a few times a week, cleanse and moisturise every night with clarins and use their oil if I'm feeling extra dry. Trouble I am having is around the nose and under the eyes looking dry so maybe an eye cream would help. I think I need a better moisturiser for the morning before make up. Does anyone have a good 2in1 moisturiser and primer?
