Help me deal with my fat arms!

I'm getting married on the 9th. It's teeny tiny - just us, DCs and two friends in an office first thing in the morning followed by lunch at new PILs.

I want to wear something nice - not a wedding dress but something pretty and different to normal. After trying on a million things and hating them all I finally bought this today. However I don't like my upper arms and want to cover them. Obviously I looked for dresses with sleeves but honestly it was hard enough to find anything that fit let alone that I didn't immediately hate so this has to be the one. I don't have time to shop again really with a toddler and baby in tow. Any ideas? I'll probably be wearing fairly thick black tights and my doc martens with it, if that gives an idea of style. I don't really want to wear a cardigan and look shapeless. But I don't know if I can bear having my flabby arms in the photos. I hate having photos as it is. Help!

Ps have name changed as obvs anyone who sees my wedding pictures and sees this will know who I am and see all the other shit I write on here

I feel your pain.

I have a top and skirt in exactly that fabric, and ended up buying a spare skirt and made a bolero out of it.

Worth considering?

CaptainBrickbeard · 31/12/2017 13:08

There is a website called something like Wingz that does lacy sleeves you can wear with any dress.

I bought a lacy bolero for my wedding dress for the same reason, there are a lot around. Lindy Bop does them, Monsoon can also be good.

Finally, I got a beautiful tattoo on my upper arm and now I don’t care about the bingo wings; I love to wear sleeveless tops and see something pretty!

My DM has a little feather cape for covering the tops of her arms at formal events. They are a bit OTT but it is your wedding day! There is a dark feathered one here www.houseoffraser.co.uk/women/issa-alfreda-beaded-neckline-feather-cape/d811585.pd#271834571 you could always wear that for photos and have a cardigan stashed away for later?

CaptainBrickbeard · 31/12/2017 13:13

I love the feathery cape!!

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 31/12/2017 13:53

A black scarf (or scarf in a contrasting colour) worn over the arms as a shawl would look FAB with that!

CountFosco · 31/12/2017 14:44

Feathered cape is totally awesome and I'd go with that. Alternatively and less dressy what about a cropped cardigan? Feels quite 50s and good with dresses. Boden do them in cashmere in a range of colours, or woolovers do them in a silk cotton mix.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 31/12/2017 15:20

The cape would look amazing with that and the docs!

Diamonddealeroncemore · 31/12/2017 15:30

When I wanted to cover my arms for my wedding I went to Monsoon and bought a lacy bolero and it was just right. In fact as they had them in cream (which I wanted for my wedding) and black I got one of each colour as they are so useful. I also bought a faux fur bolero in Monsoon as it was cold.

KiteMarked · 31/12/2017 15:31

Another vote for the cape. Congratulations!

Coast often have good cover ups to go over dresses eg this covers top of arm: www.coast-stores.com/p/lilli-jacket/1810680

CountdowntoSanta · 31/12/2017 15:37

Congratulations! I love your dress. [Flowers]

And if the weather gets colder, Reiss do a nice faux fur stole that’s now in the sale: www.reiss.com/p/faux-fur-stole-womens-cortland-in-black/?q=Cortland&gaEeList=search%20results

the biggest size jack Willis makes is a 16. I can't imagine your arms being that flabby if you are a 16 or below. don't be so nasty about yourself xxx

Ummmmgogo · 31/12/2017 20:09

gorgeous dress btw

Cahu58 · 31/12/2017 21:06

I tried the white version of that feather cape on in the summer in HOF. Looked amazing but had nowhere to where it...!

Ginnotgym · 31/12/2017 21:08

It's lovely! Congrats!

I have a go-to gold linen blazer that's served me well with many outfits for years - depending on your accessories maybe something like that?
