NARS foundation... isn't working?

I got gifted the NARS all day foundation (I asked for it) but when I put it on (over primer) it goes so patchy and clings to everything and is hard to apply? I started by using my fingers (that's what the artist told me to do) but then I tried using a beauty blender and that was a bit better but am I doing something wrong? It just doesn't seem to look good? Shade is a perfect match though Sad

Yup it's awful, only people I've seen it work for is people that have amazingly perfect skin.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 30/12/2017 20:57

Really?? But it's so expensive Shock

I struggle with this foundation too. I've got Nars Sheer Glow and both tinted moisturisers and love them, but the all day one seems to find every pore and bit of dryness and cling to it. I find it's best used with a moisturising primer (like Too Faced Hangover), a damp beauty blender and work really fast because it sets quickly. Sometimes I mix it with something else, like a tinted moisturiser or face oil, to give it a bit more slip. I think it might work better on younger oiler skin than mine.

TBH if I'd known it was going to be such a pain in the arse I wouldn't have bought it, and now I only attempt to use it when I've got time to fuss around trying to make it work. The next time I do a big makeup clear out it'll probably get chucked out.

I had this foundation and it did the exact same on my face. I ended up getting rid of it because it just looked awful.

ButteredScone · 31/12/2017 00:22

Which one is it? I have the long wear foundation - very weird.

The velvet teint is better.

HuskyMcClusky · 31/12/2017 00:23

I’m really surprised. I use NARS Sheer Glow and it goes on like a dream. And I don’t use a primer - just sunscreen underneath.

HuskyMcClusky · 31/12/2017 00:24

Oh, I see it’s a different one. If it’s touted as an all-day formulation, it’s probably quite a bit more matt than the Sheer Glow. (?)

I have Sheer Glow in Siberia - I've not found anything else sufficiently pale for me with the right kind of neutral tone.
I find it goes on nicely enough using my BB but it has 'broken up' by the time my workday is drawing to a close.
And yes, that's with a primer and loose powder to set.
Nars foundation aren't great for their longevity.
The ADLWF tends to get less good reviews than the SG.

I was talking about the Nars All Day Longwear foundation, Taller bottle with a pump, Nars Sheer Glow is awesome.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/12/2017 00:38

They work for me.

ZacharyQuack · 31/12/2017 03:02

Inspired by this thread, I used the Nars All Day foundation today (not UK time zone). I used lots of moisturiser first, then applied one drop at a time using a damp beauty blender. applied and blended one area at a time.

It sets so fast that my usual method of dotting foundation all over my face and then blending the lot in with a brush or sponge doesn't work. You have to do one area at a time.

I quite liked the results, except on the tip of my nose which looked streaky.

violetbunny · 31/12/2017 03:19

I find all NARS foundations to be completely overrated. Give me Giorgio Armani or Ellis Faas any day over NARS.

thedevilinablackdress · 31/12/2017 09:26

Have you tried it without the primer? They may be incompatible.

Softkitty2 · 31/12/2017 10:34

I love mine. They did say on the counter you have to shake very well before applying.

EraArils · 31/12/2017 14:58

It works for me but then I have oily skin, I've read that it isn't so good on drier skin types.
I think this particular foundation is like marmite.
