Why the heck does every jumper itch me?!

I treated myself to a lovely jumper in the Mint Velvet sale but after wearing it for 15 minutes it was unbearable and my neck got so hot & itchy. I'm assuming it's to do with the wool content alrhough I have got a couple of old jumpers that have some wool in which are ok.

Then went to Primark and bought a lovely jumper with no wool in and again skin all hot & itchy, had to get it off quick. Both times I've been wearing a long sleeve tee underneath.

So now i'm thinking what kind of jumper can I actually wear?!
Fed up of buying things only to have to take them back!

Anyone else have this problem?

Yup. Don’t own a single jumper.
Plenty of cardis and long sleeved t-shirts. I think I just overheat far too quickly.

I’ve just returned a jumper to Mint Velvet I was given for Christmas as my neck came out in a rash after wearing it for 15 minutes. Thought i was just being sensitive/odd!

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/12/2017 15:06

I don't, but Dd does, she wears hoodies, but every jumper itches her and is unbearable.

Honey1975 · 29/12/2017 15:07

Bluecow that's exactly it, I feel like I'm heating up within minutes & just want to rip them off! Hate feeling too hot but not keen on cold either and our house is a fairly cold one.

Any wool makes me itch and jumpers of any kind make me feel claustrophobic (think I’m a bit weird Blush)

Honey1975 · 29/12/2017 15:12

Bluecow what about cardis with wool in?

Woolovers silk and cotton mix are your friend. I have them in every colour and they are so comfortable, the only jumpers I can wear without being irritated. I like the polo necks but there are other styles, also available through Amazon.

CurbsideProphet · 29/12/2017 15:19

I have to stick to layers, as jumpers make me overheat and itch too!

BlueCowWonders · 29/12/2017 15:20

Only cotton cardi. Or cotton and silk like Shard^ suggests from
Woolovers

neveradullmoment99 · 29/12/2017 15:25

Im like this with scarves. Even acrylic ones just itch me. I have cotton ones or viscose mix and they are fine.

stickytoffeevodka · 29/12/2017 15:31

I get this with everything except Merino oddly. Even cashmere makes me itch unless I wear a long sleeved top underneath.

Tantpoke · 29/12/2017 16:27

Interesting so it's not just me then feeling itchy and claustrophobic in jumpers. I wear a lot of hoodies from that kind of hoodie sweatshirt material but some without the hood as it were.

Thanks for the Woolovers tip re silk and cotton I'll try them at some point.

I do have a couple of very thin jumpers from Uniqlo that I wear over cotton Tshirts that dont make me itch which surprisingly (I've just checked the label are 100% wool) Shock but they are super thin.

Tantpoke · 29/12/2017 16:29

My hoodie / non hoodie tops are all cotton or cotton mix so yes cotton is your friend

busyboysmum · 29/12/2017 16:38

I'm just the same and have to wear cotton jumpers only. Apparently I was like this from being a baby so it must be that our skin is just annoyingly sensitive to wool.

TryingtobePrepared · 29/12/2017 17:51

Have no wisdom to offer but me too anything with any kind of wool in it and I'm itching like I've got hives seems we're not as unusual as everyone thinks ☺

Doobigetta · 29/12/2017 18:08

Me too, has to be mostly cotton or silk. A small amount of wool or cashmere is ok, but only a small amount.

Sunflower6 · 29/12/2017 18:34

Me too any amount of wool makes me itch, I have the woolovers cotton and silk jumpers too, wish they did them in more colours

Tiddlywinks63 · 29/12/2017 19:32

I can't wear wool in any form or cashmere next to the skin without itching within seconds let alone minutes. I have to wear collared long sleeved shirts underneath.
I do wear merino, cashmere etc - I love fine merino and buy M&S Collezione men's jumpers which are softer than any other I know of.

fluffiphlox · 29/12/2017 19:34

I prefer cashmere for this reason and some finer merino.

ArkAtEee · 29/12/2017 20:36

John Smedley also do cotton, bit more spendy but they are on sale at the moment.

CantChoose · 29/12/2017 20:42

I wear a heat tech top under mine. Problem solved :)

SexNamesRFab · 29/12/2017 23:27

Me! Just reading this thread is making me itch. At this time of year, I live in thin knit jumpers like the below with coordinating vest tops underneath and scarves on top - so I can layer up/strip off as necessary.

trixymalixy · 29/12/2017 23:30

Most of my jumpers are cotton for this reason.

Caprinihahahaha · 29/12/2017 23:32

You know people can be allergic to wool?
My DD is massively allergic.
Also all those threads about children having sensory issues and unable to cope with labels, high collars, seams etc ..,,
You know they grow up ?

Caprinihahahaha · 29/12/2017 23:39

I can’t do high necks on anything
I have an issue with labels sometimes. If the label is scratchy on the back of my neck that’s my whole day, right there
