Not-skinny, not-cropped work trousers

BikeRunSki · 28/12/2017 20:52

I am struggling to find work trousers that are not cropped and not skinny - my calf muscles are too chunky for skinny.

Many years ago I had some grey and black tweed wool mix wide leg trousers from M&S. i wire them to pieces. I’m basically trying to replace them. I thought they were quite classic, but fashions are very different now!

Next seem to have some wider leg trousers now, they call 'em 'slouch'.

I live in hope that skinny is on the way out.

Insertawittynamehere · 28/12/2017 22:00

Oh God please let skinnies finally go out of fashion. Or at least, not be the only type of trouser you can get.

Being short legged, slouch trousers make me look like a sack of potatos.

I NEED proper wide leg ie fitted on hips but loose legs.

I was coming to post something very similar - am looking for thick wool trousers (as I cycle to work and need the warmth!) that aren't 3/4, 7/8 or some other ridiculous crop length. I have a pair from boden that are great but after about 3 yrs the upper thigh/ groin area is worn through from cycling Angry

GinUser · 29/12/2017 06:23

Hobbs had some grey wool trousers in the sales.
Brax do various leg widths, but not sure if they are available in the UK or if the stock is different for the UK market.

Definitely Next!

Boden richmond bootleg trousers are lovely and v comfy.

mercurymaze · 29/12/2017 09:11

I have uniqlo wool trousers that are full length

BikeRunSki · 29/12/2017 09:11

I bought some Richmond trousers once. They were the most unflattering garment i’ve ever put on! To be fair to Boden, bootcut does me no favours. I need proper wideleg.

They're called tweed in sale £19

TooMinty · 29/12/2017 09:17

I just bought some wide leg trousers from ASOS. They were from the petite range but they might also do regular/tall? Just plain black though not tweed/wool.

BikeRunSki · 29/12/2017 09:19

I’ve looked at the Uniqlo ones - they’d be perfect if they had my size left! Thank you mercury

I have revisited the Uniqlo website and the trousers mercury says about are back in in an XL in grey. I’ve never had anything from Uniwlo before, and hacevakwats assumed they wouldn’t be large enough for me (5’8”, 32” inside leg, 14/16) but for £19 i’ll give it a whirl.

i am a 14 and get a Large, I really like those trousers and wear them all the time as they are very comfortable but look smart

JumpJockey · 29/12/2017 12:49

They do look great - if only I was a size XS as that's all that seems to be left Xmas Grin also interesting to see a uniqlo advert appearing in my sidebar now...

Tisfortired · 29/12/2017 12:51

I buy all of my work trousers from H&M - aside from having to size up, they do a straight leg style (NOT SKINNY) so I have bought these in grey, black and navy.

I would really recommend, they have lasted well considering the wear and are £20 each I if I remember correctly.

BikeRunSki · 30/12/2017 11:11

OMG

I ordered the tweed Uniqlo trousers

OP posts:
BikeRunSki · 30/12/2017 11:17

... that mercury suggested. Also a cardigan. Have often looked at Uniqlo, but never ordered. They have no shops remotely near me and i’d always thought i’d be too big for them.

They fit! Trousers fit around thighs and are long enough, cardigan reaches waist, which is all I can ask with a long body (also does up over boobs). I’ll have to swallow my pride about being XL and take delight in having found a new source of reasonably priced clothes that bridge the highly trendy - old lady frump gap.

If you need others, I can recommend Esprit straights. www.esprit.co.uk/womenswear/trousers/straight

I also have strong calves and get stuck in anything slim fit and half the so-called straights.
