What to wear to the Ballet?

Been (very luckily) gifted tickets to the Ballet this week.

Will smart casual (skinnies, jumper, Leather jacket) be okay or should I get more dressed up?

Never been before! Help!

I go occasionally
Never dress up
Never see anyone dressed up except a handful at the ROH.

Just enjoy!

I go quite often and have worn jeans lots of times. Smart casual will be fine.

Some people do still get super dressed up, but the ROH and Coliseum have been trying for years to become more accessible and inclusive, and that's meant relaxing dress codes.

I go to ROH, Sadlers Wells and Coliseum and never dress up. Jeans and pumps for me every time and I’ve never felt out of place so what you’re proposing to wear sounds fine.

Don't dress up, people turn up in trainers with shopping bags

It's fab!

No need to dress up, but if you fancy doing so, why not? I always enjoy watching glamorous people :) think there's a Diana Vreeland saying re: dressing up, because think how much pleasure it gives other people to see you.

Though of course one should only ever dress to please oneself!

I go to lots of ballets, as my daughter is in a vocational ballet school!
I normally dress up a bit smarter than jeans, but not evening wear. Business casual-ish, I guess.

Wrap up though (take a pashmina or cashmere wrap, for example), as it can sometimes get a bit chilly sitting still throughout the duration of the performance!

Thanks everyone!

Even in the best seats at ROH the vast majority are smart casual. It must be 20 years since I've seen a ballgown or anything like that.
