If you wear glasses ...

... do you wear earrings? And, if so, what style?

I used to love wearing earrings, but since I've been wearing specs, they just don't look right. I just feel a bit 'busy''. Even small studs look too much.

Should I just abandon the idea can go bare?!

I don't. I have a small face, my glasses are quite distinctive and there's just too much going on if I add earrings into the mix. Plus they're like a sign saying, 'Look at my jowls'. That doesn't mean they can't work for other people.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 23/12/2017 17:00

I didn't even realise this was a thing? I've always worn glasses and earrings! Daily just small plain studs but wore larger diamond ovals Thai week for Christmas party! Conflict with my glasses didn't even occur to me!

toomuchfaster · 23/12/2017 17:02

I have 3 studs in each ear all the time and I wear whatever ones I fancy if dressing up. I've never considered glasses as jewellery so I don't feel overloaded.

BenLui · 23/12/2017 17:03

I think it might depend on your hair style.

Floisme · 23/12/2017 17:08

Yeah my hair's quite big too (although the post menopause is well on the way to solving that particular difficulty). So small face, big glasses, jowls plus big earrings (cos I don't see the point of small earrings)? Not today thank you.

But I don't think it's a rule or even a thing. It's just what works for you. If my hair all falls out, I might reconsider.

rosy71 · 23/12/2017 17:11

I usually wear contact lenses but if I'm wearing my glasses, I always feel weird having anything else around my head e.g. earrings, anything in my hair, a hat etc. I only ever wear stud earrings with my glasses.

crazycatgal · 23/12/2017 17:16

I always wear earrings with my glasses, either 3 small silver studs in each ear or small hoops.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/12/2017 17:16

I remember a post in the past asking this. I cant say i had ever thought about it. Tbh i have long hair and glasses. I wear earrings frequently. I wear larger ones with my hair down and smaller ones with my hair up. I dont think it is a big deal.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/12/2017 17:17

It works for my face. I dont think it looks odd.

RosesInTheHospital · 23/12/2017 17:18

Yep. And a nose ring.

tinydancer88 · 23/12/2017 17:18

I wear small studs or hoops with my glasses most days. If going somewhere nice I usually wear contacts with bigger/more noticeable earrings.

SallyOMalley · 23/12/2017 17:31

I think I'm just not used to seeing so much going on around my face! My glasses have dark rims and are quite large, and my hair is short (a bit like Sharleen Spiteri). I've always worn large earrings and I'm not sure about those right now. I do like climber earrings that run up the ear, so I think that might be a good excuse for a shopping spree Wink

I have a short pixie and wear glasses. I wear diamond studs for work, big silver thin hoops for casual weekend or long thin silver danglies for jazzy parties. I guess I don't really have earrings that have any thickness to them which could look a bit clunky with glasses.

TheHoundsofLove · 23/12/2017 18:26

I love earrings, but only really wear more than a diamond stud if I've got my contacts in. Like others, I've got a small face, distinctive glasses, really like a bright lipstick and feel that earrings makes me look a bit too 'wacky'.
I've seen others look great with earrings and glasses though, so I think it's a purely personal thing.

Gah81 · 23/12/2017 19:51

Never thought about this. I always wear earrings with my glasses. Usually pearl studs or gold hoops.

But then I have large features - big eyes, wide mouth, big curly long red hair, large (but slim) tortoiseshell glasses and a somewhat flamboyant dress sense (capes, vintage hourglass dresses, bright ish block colours, peplums, stand up collars, nipped in waists etc etc).

So there is a lot going on, but it actually all kind of goes together. I like to think so anyway Grin.

God. Reading that back, my style sounds quite...loud. Ah well. I like it!

Ceebs85 · 23/12/2017 19:55

I've worn glasses since I was 17 and never considered it'd not be ok to wear earrings!

I've also got a heavy fringe. I probably look ridiculous. Nevermind!

Loadedllama · 23/12/2017 19:56

I have worn glasses for about 30 years and tend to wear stud earrings rather than drop style ones. I have a little head and small face and somehow dangly earrings look cluttered. I’m also only 5’ so try to keep things simple style wise. Gah81 your style sounds brilliant.

PerveSwerve · 23/12/2017 19:59

I only wear studs (admittedly 3 in one ear) if I've got my glasses on. Otherwise I look a bit Su Pollard. I think perhaps if I had more delicate facial features it might work, but I have a nose straight out of a Modigliani painting.

mollyblack · 23/12/2017 20:03

I'm a bit conflcted about this too cause i think it can be a bit busy. But it definitely depends on your face/head shape and your hairstyle.

hugoagogo · 23/12/2017 20:09

I always wear earrings and glasses and have done since I was 16.
But my glasses are plain and non fussy and my earrings notoriously tiny and non sparkly.

mummyretired · 23/12/2017 20:13

I have big glasses and short hair, I go for small neat earrings in the daytime, but dangly beaded ones in the same colour range as the specs also work well. I cannot wear any of my larger earrings that are a different colour to my specs though, which is faintly annoying.

SallyOMalley · 23/12/2017 20:24

Gah - your style sounds awesome!

I just wear pearls

explodingkittens · 24/12/2017 11:47

I have very short hair and large, dark-rimmed glasses and have noticed that busy or long dangly earrings can tip into Su Pollard territory. I tend to stick to plain studs and small hoops, or I have two pairs of discreet drop earrings with plain stones which don't draw attention to the jowly bits.

Paintbox · 24/12/2017 20:13

I only wear studs or tiny hoops if I’ve got my glasses on. I save my bigger earrings for when I’m wearing my contacts. Bigger earrings and glasses looks wrong to me
