Do you wear brogues?

I tend to wear just boots on the winter and thought I would try some brogues.

I like a chunky sole, I’ve seen a few pairs in John Lewis I quite like.

What about patent -yay or neh?

I wear normal black or grey ankle socks with my work trousers and brogues, or tights with dresses/skirts. But then I don't really care about being stylish so can't really help with that.

I love brogues, and would be wearing them
if my bastard Jack Russell hadn’t eaten my last pairXmas Angry. I can’t find any I like at the moment, so am very jealous of the rest of you. Xmas Envy

Yes. Black patent. Russel & Brom.

Usually with black tights or thin/delicate socks as other people have suggested.

Dancergirl · 22/12/2017 18:24

What type do you like furcoat?

Yes, hamble oak black patent and pewter. Wear with cigarette pants or a line knee length skirts / dresses.

I wear brogues with everything at work. Patent Russel and Bromley’s. I hate heels and have wide feet so brogues work really well for me.

I have fallen for Rogue Matilda Taffy. But they're £££. Does anyone know of any other funky brogue brands?

I do! Cropped trousers and a blazer (or a cape) and my tan or black patent ones.

I usually buy Clarks Hamble on eBay (because I love a bargain and do not mind second hand).

I have a Russell and Bromley black patent kiltie loafer (Ghillie) I love and wear with everything incl skirts and dresses. I don't have any Shoe Embassy shoes but I've been told they are very comfy and they have a bunch of gorgeous brogues incl contrast trim and chunky sole versions: www.shoeembassy.com/woman/brogues

These are my beauties! They also do a gold pair and a silver pair which I would LOVE! I have huge feet thought so sixes are difficult to get hold of!

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 23/12/2017 00:57

Sizes not sixes!!

RubbishMantra · 23/12/2017 08:01

I love them, and have 3 pairs! One fairly standard black patent and matte (my first pair) and some black patent ones with only 2 oversized eyelets with a giant grosgrain ribbon for laces (my fanciest! Grin) and my latest acquisition, a pair of v. pointed pewter leather (so soft!) from PosteMistress/Office. I find them a bit of a bugger to break in around the heel though. I was thoroughly depressed when I had to send a BEAUTIFUL pair from Joseph back because the fit was completely wrong.

I am now hankering after the black Pommes from the Rogue Matilda site thanks to the link from johendy.

Those brown ones are lovely too, do you mind me asking where they're from?

Furball · 23/12/2017 08:07

I wear Hamble Oak in Black to work and they are one of the comfiest shoes ever.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 23/12/2017 08:23

Does anyone successfully wear them with orthotics? If so which ones? I developed plantar fasciitis and now have to wear orthotics or Birkenstock type shaped soles at all times. When the podiatrist told me “lace-up shoes are best” I thought I’d try brogues but having traipsed round dozens of shops I always find the orthotics raise my heel so much that it is flopping in and out of the shoe. So I am stuck with trainers or boots all winter.

PragmaticWench · 23/12/2017 08:52

@ChanandlerBongsNeighbour where are those from please?! They're fabulous! I also have huge feet so am always on the lookout for places which make decent styles in larger sizes.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 23/12/2017 14:44

They are Sam Edelman which I think is an American brand? (Happy to be corrected on that though!) I got mine brand new off eBay (was very lucky!) As I wouldn't be able to afford a new pair. They're absolutely gorgeous!!
