WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, WEEK FOUR

WideWebWitch · 23/04/2007 08:26

Week 4 of the third (I think) boot camp of the year , welcome.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

www - I haven't taken the sunscreen out of the box yet! Takes me days to buy it and a few more to open it! I will definitely be putting more effort into drinking water thanks to trying to take a photo of myself with my hair looking tidy and having a huge shock in the process. I do not, I'll have you know, look as rough in RL as the photos I took! David Bailey I'm not, so I doubt you'll see them anyway. My hair is nice, shortish (hope you're happy with yours, Dingle) and now coloured again. I spent a while in foils and let another MNer know where I'd be and when in case she wanted to come and pull faces through the window whilst she was in town. I didn't see her, but then I can't see a thing without my glasses. Anyway...waffling on. No booze tonight as out as per usual late on a Fri due to kids' evening activity. Still, I had a glass of wine one night this week when dh was away so I feel I'm still on track. Oh, and I walked the dog for well over an hour whilst waiting for dd. Off to bed!

A sunny Saturday beckons and I am trying to ignore the annoying sounds of my children arguing. Am going to be industrious today and get round all the stuff that piles up about the place. Have already sorted out the washing basket and will do some cleaning before defuzzing, showering and liberally applying Jo Malone stuff (the smell is an instant spirit lifter). Have shopping to do but may do Ocado as have an offer and then am going to get loads of cheap T-shirts from M&S so that I can bin last year's misshapen ones (clothing bank actually).

Will dig out pedometer later and am going to get an armband thingy to use with the Ipod in the gym (stuffed it in bra but not good idea when working up a sweat!).

Had great news this week - DS has a place at our first-choice school so one less thing to worry about for our move this summer. Will be returning acceptance form today together with application for DD's place. Please send positive vibes that she gets in to the same school.

Time to shut down the computer and embrace the day.

hello all
this week has not been good - sigh

dh is up to his old tricks - making burgers for lunch, taking me out for fabbo Thai meals and the piece de resistance home-made Cinnabon rolls

he needs to go away on business again soon

MotherSuperior · 28/04/2007 10:55

Ate pizza, drank wine, fell asleep on sofa with my mouth hanging attractively open but it was prob only 11pm. Poor dh, I bet he's wishing for a bit more romance too. Sobernow, I do think it's lovely when you've got to the stage where your children behave in restaurants, that sounds very pleasant and Friday ish.

I had a lovely lie in until 9.30am and have showered, used body lotion and dh has set my pedometer, which arrrived in the post this morning. Batters, 19000 steps is fab.

SS, glad you like your hair, Dingle, how is yours?

Yoyo, fab about ds, how lovely. I am tempted by the Ocado offer too, a tenner off and a free bottle of wine, hmmm. I'm so cheap...my children have been arguing too, it's a PITA.

Iota, drool drool esp at Thai meals.

I've already had a bacon roll this morning and a fairy cake. Oh well.

turquoise · 28/04/2007 12:43

This thread has been really good at keeping me off the midweek wine, and even made me put sunscreen on just to go shopping this morning, so am feeling less despondant about the muffins.
In fact have been fairly virtuous foodwise - chicken and rice for supper yesterday, special K today and about to have shepherd's pie for lunch. Got nut and caramel choccy digestives on a bogof this morning though which doesn't bode well, but will dust off the rowing machine.
SS - put up the pictures!

Hello, you superior person you. I personally have a case of killer PMT (at least that's what I think it is, that strange urge to kill absolutely everyone on one's path especially those who do anything that could even remotely be construed as irritating) exacerbated by (a) job thingywossname I have to prepare for (b) a partner who SNORED last night.

Although my bad sleep was probably made worse by the fact that after a week of abstinence and another 60 did I say 60? yes that was 60 lengths yesterday evening I downed four (normal, unit-sized) glasses of wine in fairly quick succession. Along with a dinner involving no fruit or veg whatsoever. And G&B vanilla ice cream with maple syrup and walnut pieces (ah, but it was organic, you see).

Today is marginally better if you ignore the two blueberry muffins I downed for breakfast.

tortoiseSHELL · 28/04/2007 18:09

good for you! Glad your day improved!

motherinferior · 28/04/2007 18:15

I think you lot should know that I have for some while been touting a proposed feature on 'weekend weakness', as exemplified by (a) me (b) everyone else on this thread

tortoiseSHELL · 28/04/2007 18:50

weekend weakness, pah, no such thing....

oh ok, it's true!!!

SimplySparkling · 28/04/2007 20:12

I don't have a w/e weakness! Oh, actually, I did eat 3 of dd's home-made biccies but it would be rude not to, wouldn't it?! Breakfast was cereal, juice and a cup of tea. I didn't have a cake in town when dd did and I had a jacket potato and baked beans with ginger beer for lunch in town. Before tea I had a bagel with butter and marmalade and a coffee. Tea was garlic chicken on a kebab type stick grilled with lots and lots of veg. Oh, and a glass and a half of wine and one of water.

I took the sunscreen tube out of the box and applied it before going shopping today! I also bought myself some summer flip flop style summer shoes. First time ever and I'm late 30s! I did put body lotion on today and hand cream last night. Not enough water but was busy shopping and carrying umpteen bags. I will try to get to bed by 10.30pm. I might even make it to church tomorrow! Will have to check the time with neighbour first, though. Not bad, overall!

turquoise Dh has the camera with him and he is away until tomorrow evening. If I do, I'll link that thread to this one.

winnie · 28/04/2007 20:26

It's been a good day although I absolutely need to get more exercise. I am seriously thinking of getting a pedometre thanks to this thread but will I use it enough to justify it?

Planned to go swimming this morning and oveslept Absolutely refuse to go to anything but lane swimming first thing in the morning

Everything else going well I even drank a lot of water today.
And my jeans are hanging off me and look ridiculous. I've dropped a size

Absolutely believe in weekend weakness MI. Which is why I have to have 'treats' at the weekend i.e a glass or two of wine and the odd piece of green & blacks etc Without the weekends to look forward to I'd never last Mon-Fri being so good.

winnie · 28/04/2007 20:29

I am sure I've posted a link to this of MN before but I reread it today and thought it would be of interest to all here.

Nigel Slater's more realistic 'diet'

winnie · 28/04/2007 20:31

You'd think I'd know how to spell pedometer after reading this thread

turquoise · 28/04/2007 20:35

I think weekend weakness is essential or life is simply not worth living. You don't have to pig out excessively, but if you can't have a bit of cheese/wine/chocolate whatever at the weekend when being good all week, then I'd just give up and be a mahoosive blimp permanently.

yoyo · 28/04/2007 21:13

Winnie - I can't believe I read that four years ago! The "thirst or hunger" part has always stayed with me and I will always have a glass of water before reaching for chocolate. He doesn't have the problem of children though and the fact that there are always bits left on their plates to nibble at or the crusts off their sandwiches.

Enjoying today which does not equate with abiding by the rules. Outside of healthy stuff I have had some Doritos, a chocolate biscuit and home-made fish and chips for tea. Am now going to have some wine and chat to DH if the children ever, ever, ever settle down and go to sleep. They are driving me bonkers.

SimplySparkling · 28/04/2007 22:27

Yes, I've been reaching for the water more and sometimes for a juice as I feel I need a quick lift. If I don't have a juice, I'll have a bagel or several rounds of toast, so the juice is the better option.

WideWebWitch · 29/04/2007 07:52

Oh thank you winnie for that link, I remember reading it 4 years ago too, especially remember the water bit, I will re read it in a bit.

Drank lots of wine last night but felt happy so there you go.

By the way, did anyone see Sarah Brightman and Patsy Kensit on Jonathan Ross on Friday? Just looked up SB's age and apparently she was born in 1960, making her 46/47 and she looked great on it, as did Patsy Kensit, who is 1 yr younger than me and whose boyf is 10 yy than her (as is my dh so I was pleased to hear Jonathon Ross saying 10 yrs is no big deal as an age gap)

iota · 29/04/2007 16:11

today we went for a family bike ride - it was freezing cold - what happened to the sun we were promised?

so no sunscreen for me

might be going swimming in a bit ( dh has got a bit of a bee in his bonnet)

Dingle · 29/04/2007 16:40

Been very good with some things, but not managed as well on others! Still very motivated though, just need to get my act together!

As for my hair, I am not 100% sure yet, I like it, but it's such a change and I think it will take a lot of getting used to! Had some very good comments though, but perhaps they were just in shock and being polite!LOL.

For a limited time you can have a look here

Not good photos and I know need to do something with the skin and wrinkles now!
